Is it possible for a foreigner to buy, register & insure a motorcycle
in the UK (or any other European nation) such that they could legally
    ride the bike there ?

Absolutely! In Denmark it is not even legal for a foreigner to ride a
motorcycle (or drive a car) with non-danish registration if they live in
Denmark. Rules are something along the lines that you have to have it
registered and insured in Denmark within 6 weeks after taking up residence
there (should you be insanely inclined along those lines...)

't Was quite easy: I bought, registered and insured a motorcycle in the UK,
such that I could legally ride the bike here.

the UK rules for foreigners are here
    http://www.dvla.gov.uk/drivers/drvingb.htm

anyone can be the registered keeper of a vehicle (do not even need a
    licence)

EU nationals can ride/drive for life on their existing foreign licence or
exchange it for a UK licence

From other nations you have 12 months on your existing licence then you
have to pass the UK test.

**** knows what they do in other European countries

  13. Several Ukrm-ers are furriners, and have successfully registered bikes
here. Spete, Timo, Pavel (what happened to him?), and others.

  15. I'm a dirty foreigner in Sweden and it's very easy. I've bought a
Swedish registered car and bike, both of which are registered to me
and I pay the insurance. I drive on my UK licence which I'm NOT
obliged to change for a Swedish one if I don't want to.

Nah, I changed it so the hypothetical question I posted yesterday
morning didn't immediately show up under my name when using google and
now I can't be arsed to switch it back. Guess I probably should, tho'.

    Lazy, me.
