    Pistons, rings, main/big-end bearings etc?

Just what I thought. The answer (if any) might become useful to me
though if it covers the main/big-end department.

As to pistons and rings, Omega were very helpful when I thought I may
not be able to get rings for the 102mm Nordwest big bore. I went to
their place (which was in Oldbury then) and they tried very hard to find
matching rings or some capable of being modified. I think their range is
    even more extensive now.

Nothing yet, just trying to decide if I should sell the Fantic as the
last remaining source of Hiro engine parts has vanished (not that I've
ever needed any other than a little end bearing).

I really, really don't want to sell it, but I don't want to join the
throngs of similar Hiro-engined Aprilia, Armstrong & CCM owners out
there with dead bikes & no way of fixing them economically.

The upside is that means my engine should be worth shitloads, so maybe
I should just sell it & get something like a CRM to satisfy my manic
2-stroke addiction. It'd be hard to let it go though.

Thanks, might give them a call with some measurements next time I have
it apart. Actually I think Omega make the Vincent pistons for my
brother so I may have a friendly contact there.

CCM Britain are just down the road from me & will make just about
anything (they've got CNC kit coming out their ears), but needless to
say it won't be cheap for small quantities.

It has crossed my mind, especially given the mechanism I've got access
to for selling them. I might float the idea on a few forums.

Fine for the engines in the 20s & 30s maybe, less so for a high revving
    highly tuned 2-stroke.

  10. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Krusty
What he said. I'll happily make pistons and rings for steam engines, not
    for a HRHT2S.

    It's a 1970s race tuned piston ported 2-stroke - it makes around 2bhp
    outside the power band.
    Yes please.

Are you certain that it is not a stock piston, most engine makers use
"stock" pistons and bearings from a few specialist suppliers such as AE.
Almost any part will be used in several engines often by different
manufacturers. Having special parts made is expensive, especially for
short runs so most munufacturers try to avoid this.

The hard bit is figuring out who made it and what their part number is,
this is often cast on the inside of the piston if you can decipher it.

FWIW I wanted a piston for an ancient Douglas stationary engine and a
good man in a brown coat took a close look and matched up the Hepolite
marks as being the same as for a Humber car, Hepolite were taken over
    by AE.

  16. And a HRHT2S won't be using plain bearings, either.

These days you can buy continuous-cast nodular cast-iron bar from
model engine suppliers. I've made one model piston ring using that
stuff. The engine still doesn't run, mind.
