Can I bodge the switch?

  1. The GS450 brake light switch.

After purchasing a brand new one at not an inconsiderable cost, I got it
home, got down to the business of swapping it over and low and behold,
the tiny fucking spring and brass contact that goes round it pinged out
and fucked off while I was trying to get it to go in the slot in the
    brake lever.

Anyway, I'm told I can't buy the spring and contact and will have to buy
    the whole lot again.

    ****. That.

Can anyone think of a suitable bodge? I've not no springs that are
suitable although a cut down biro one *might* fit but it'd be fucking
tight and then bung a bit of foil on the end.

I can't think of anything better.

    Can you?

Do you need a front switch? It used to be you only needed a rear one, if
I recall correctly at one time Suzuki did'nt even fit front brake light
    switches.

I expect the rules have changed though, someone who knows will be along
    shortly :)

  3. Depends on age, however, the usual rule is if it's fitted then it
    should work.

Yep, it is fitted with a front and it's that one that's gone.

  5. Ah, a pingfuckit problem.

Use a standard microswitch or preferably some more industrial
encased/weathertight version of same, making a suitable bracket.

    Cheap as chips.

Have a look in Maplins or Farnell's catalogues.
