I haven't read anything good on google groups archive about them (yet).
They're a scam, HTH. If they were any good, why would they want payment upfront, rather than a percentage of the selling amount?
Thought I'd see if I could register as a buyer, but there's no Yamaha (etc) in the "Make" list !!?! http://www.cardata.co.uk/forms/buyer.jsp Why would any buyers get in touch with them !? The only people they'd find advertising for bikes wanted are dealers, who aren't going to be interested in their service anyway. How on earth have they been doing this since 1981 ?! A friend said they were mentioned on Watchdog recently, wish the BBC site was more accessible. R.
Car Data only ever contact me when I'm selling something, so just where all their buyers are coming from beggars belief. I spoke to someone scammed by them who had a Mazda 323 Turbo for sale - very rare car. Car Data had phoned up with the usual spiel of 'We already have buyers interested in a car like yours' - which turned out to be a complete crock as no-one through Car Data ever contacted him about it. More recently they had changed their line to 'can we send a you a free brochure'. I've never accepted this either, it just gives them an excuse to bug you some more. Having thought about it though, you could twist this and say xxxxx have had brochures from us with sellers cars detailed. I'm now registered on the TPS, so it will get interesting if they ever phone me again... Phil.
Happened to a friend of mine, his reply was "put me in contact with your hordes of buyers & if one buys I'll give you your commission" Strangely they didn't want to take up his offer.
They phoned me last week when my Kwak was in MCN. It's so obviously a scam I can't believe that anyone actually buys it!
Phil Wattis was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever: It's far worse than that, actually. They get paid a commission for every address they extract from the reluctant seller of a vehicle. No, I'm not kidding, and I ain't drunk either. Well, not *too* drunk at least. How do I know this? Let's just say that one of the probably not very experienced phone drones spoke to a very annoyed boxhead at one point and didn't know when to shut it.
... According to the bloke I spoke to they've been operating since 1981!!! I remembered them saying they advertise your bike in the Mirror. Check out the site http://www.mirrorcars.co.uk/ (Of course there's no Mirror BIKES link) It's a framed page, if you do a right click in the middle and view properties, the page is http://www.cardata.co.uk/mirror/vs1_makes.jsp Their comments page has two comments with identical text from two seperate "customers". I bet if you googled for the text it would come up on other bogus customer feedback sites. I think I'm going to try Ebay, as it's £6 to list and £3 for reserve, but I can html the description to include more pics etc than I'd get with biketrader. A friend sold her Kwak 400 last year via Ebay. R.
In uk.rec.motorcycles, R45six said: They used to advertise on the telly. A bloke in a gravelly voice (to a 10 year old) called out the number and said "01-38383" or something like that.
