Hey there Guys and Girls!. ( Sound like something that Krusty the Clown
    would say lol )

Ive been riding on and off for a few years now, and still i cant find out
from anyone if Car Skipping at a set of lights etc is permitted by the law?
Can you help? Im not sure if you call it Lane Splitting or Car Skipping,
whatever it is... Is it against the law? where can i find this rule??

    Thanks!.

In most states there is no law that specifically describes the action
    and bans it.

There are laws that describe what is a legal passing manouver.

If you can lanesplit without once having your wheels between a car's
passenger door and the white lanemarking line, you could argue that what
you did was a legal passing move. Otherwise you are "passing on the
    left" which is illegal.

In practical terms, don't commit the offence of "Deliberate stupidy in a
public place" and you'll be mostly OK. Meaning if there is a cop, only
split if it's very safe and simple to do so. And expect that if said
cop feels like it, you'll get done anyway.

And if you do get done, don't argue.

I did the Murchotts Driving School thing a few months ago (Victoria)
and I "think" they said that it is not a problem if you overtake on
the right of the vehicle. I read into that that you can only do it
if you ovetake the car on the far right, as if you do it in any other
lane you would be passing a car in their lane on their left which is
    bad.

He also said that there was no "law" about this for motocycles, just
    interpertations for all road users.

Having siad that, I could still be wrong....any ideas?

Their is no specific law stating that, its an offence to ride between two
    cars. (I speak from nsw)

theirs also no ticket for doing a wheelie

however several other offences could be apart of it.

Like overtaking on the left, Not keep more than 1.5m from other vehicle,
Ride abrest of vehicle (in the same lane) and of cause, the universal
ticket, of Negligent driving, which is something a reasonable and prudent
person would do or something a reasonable and prudent person would not do.

On another note their is a ticket for rider unhelmeted and 5 unhelmeted
    passengers!

well i think its funny, its ment to be like a jury, 5 regular people's
    opinion..

But if they were 5 bikers, doing a wheelie and lane splitting would be
something a reasonable and prudent motorcyclist would do :)
