Add me to the list of people who won't be using them this year.

Forgot to renew on Monday, so called up today to do it.

They came back with a quote of £50 more than my renewal letter.

When I declined this offer, they came back with one £10 over, so I
declined again, for him to come back at £5 over.

At this point, I'd been on the phone for a good 15 mins or so, whilst he
tried to sell me helmet insurance, personal injury insurance, home
insurance and car insurance. The helmet / kit and personal accident
insurance needed a good half dozen 'no' answers before he gave up.... I
ended up telling them to match the letter i had in front of me, or I'd
    go elsewhere.

They wouldn't, so elsewhere it is, then.

I know £159 isn't bad for 2 bikes on FC cover for the year - but they'd
pissed me off so much by that point, I wouldn't insure with them unless
    I really had to.

    Idiots.

You have to give them credit, they're working really hard on pissing
off all the loyal customers. Quite a feat, that.

Did your renewal quote also come in at something stupid above the
    previous year's renewal?

    Strangely, no.

But I've now just sorted the cover via CIA for £20 less than CN's
    original quote.

    £135 for both, FC.

    Heh.

"What's the proof that the CIA wasn't involved in the JFK
    assassination?"

    "He'd dead, isn't he?"

Has Obama thought of scrapping them and simply handing it over to the Mob.

There was a calculation that, given the enormous cost of the Vietnam war,
the same result could have been achieved for about half the money by simply
taking out contracts on individual Vietcong.

If their Pres hadn't been such a fucking Wuss one decent size Nuke would
have stopped it before it started. The General in charge was all for it.
Additional cost? One B52 tank of fuel. Caualties, probably less overall.
Result for South Vietnam, they might look more like Korea by now.

Even easier and cheaper would have been to buy off the whole country.
When per capita income is only $1000/year, it wouldn't take much.
Assassins cost more, plus you'd never know when you offed all the VC.

That was the point. You wouldn't off all the VC. Just some of them. The
same number as were killed in the Vietnam war.

CIA paid out on a claim without even talking to the person who was
    insured.

Ahhh, so you're thinking get the same result for less cash. That's
what's being tried in Afghanistan right now, with questionable
success. But if they'd paid that much to every citizen, they'd have
improved the lot of the commoners and perhaps not have lost the war.
Sort of a pre-war Marshall plan, if you will.
