I wouldn't want to venture into our back garden without breathing
    apparatus atm.

    Bugger, it's lovely here.
In fact it's been a lovely day all round.

Schlepped up to the Ace Cafe to meet WC of this parish.
After some dicking around regarding gloves we bimbled down to the land
of the rising Auvache and enjoyed a fish and chip dinner on the sea
front, followed by a couple of pints of Mr Greene and Mr Kings finest
    IPA.

Bimbleage back in the sunshine and now I are mostly drinking Tetrapak
    wine in the back garden.

  8. Looking a bit cloudy here. I was wondering whether to light the BBQ. I
have already started raidng the beer cooler.

And spent a couple of hours cleaning the K, which hasn't had a rag wiped
over it since the French Run and had accumulated a croute of dead
    insects that was quite impressive.

I have a potjie full of venison, carrots, onion, bacon, garlic and port
    bubbling away on my BBQ.

I have new potatoes and mint from the garden waiting to hit the water at
    the appropriate moment.

    I have a man-sized G&T in my fist.

Life really doesn't get much better than this.

go and talk to the Catholics.

Glad you reminded me. Time to pick the first feed off this year's broad
beans and have a furtle round to see if any spuds are ready. The second
bit might be a somewhat muddy process following the downpour we just
    had.

Fortunately this didn't arrive until after SWMBO and the lad had
completed the 'Go Ape' course at Cannock Chase.

I feel your pain, brother Dan.

Is it's any consolation, the venison was...

No, no. It's no good, I cannot lie to you.

It was fucking magnificent. Rich, sweet, and as tender as could be. And
we finished it just as god laid on a son-et-lumiere show to rival any
    I've ever seen.

All washed down with a bottle of very decent red.

Life is hard, and then you die.

Swap that man sized G&T for a pair of tits and I'd agree.

Fucking brilliant. I first met one a few years ago in SA and I've wanted
one ever since. I finally got round to ordering one.

The recipe I used (from t'internet) was:

    Venison Potjie (Wildspotjie)

    125 ml sunflower oil
    4 medium carrots, sliced
    2 medium onions, sliced
    2 cloves garlic, crushed
    10 ml chopped fresh thyme
    1 kg venison, cubed
    250 g rindless bacon, chopped
500 ml port or dry red wine
    6 medium potatoes, sliced

Heat the oil in a pot and sauté the carrots, onions and garlic for about
5 minutes. Add the thyme, meat, bacon and port and simmer, covered, for
3 hours. Add the potatoes and simmer for a further 30 to 45 minutes.

It didn't need three hours, two was plenty. and we did the potatoes
separately. And it was fucking *stunning*. The best bit of the cooking
was when I lifted the lid early in the simmering process and there was a
WHOOOMPH! as the alcohol from the port ignited...
