Casino Royale

  1. Yes I'm months behind the times but I've just watched it in chunks via
    You Tube.

I have to say I was a tad skeptical about the choice of Daniel Craig but
I think he's done a good job with the character. The film was not a
traditional Bond flick in some respects - some will say hooray about
that - but I thought it was pretty damn good overall. It also nicely
explains why the character evolves the way it does in later books.

I look forward to the next Bond film starring Mr Craig.

I went to see it at the flicks myself, and I feel it was a damned good
film in its own right. However, as a long time Bond fan, I personally
think they missed the whole point of a Bond film.

It's only £7 in Asda for the 2-disc special edition DVD.

  4. My feelings entirely. Bond is portrayed as nasty, brutal and unfeeling,
which I think is a good way to go.

The plot was tragic, but the film carried it off.

    message
He was made for the part wasn't he and a good successor synonymous with
better attempts at Bond in the past? Having watched his casting in Layer
Cake, I would have thought it was a no-brainer in the decision stakes - the
assassin scene in particular reminded me very much of Casino Royale (I
actually watched Layer Cake afterwards on Sky).

He certainly craps all over repeated previous attempts at Bond by Brosnan
which I just found one-dimensional and mostly couldn't be arsed to watch
many of his films except under final duress (but at least he can say he
followed in the footsteps of Bonds like Roger Moore).

In any given contest, the one starring Niv wins hands down.

I thought it was a cracker to be honest. The only let down once you
have finished the film was the beginning. There wasn't any need, given
the tone & structure of the film to wreck the coach etc. It was too
overpowering for a reasonably subtle bond film.

Paul, I notice that the people in this community use different
    symbols in front of their monikers: ~ , ` , = , * -- I wondered if those
were to indicate sexual orientation; any idea?
