I'd have expected that too, and there's a large North African section
in several of the larger supermarkets round here, but no, they only
have it in little 20g packs without the thick stem, charging a couple
of euros a pop. That's if they have any at all.

There is a big covered markey in Mulhouse that has it, but frankly
it's a right PITA, being smack in the middle of town, so we hardly
    ever go.

You wanna watch out - that's supposed to be bad for them, you know.

Couple of ours get the occasional saucer of milk, mind, but not as a
    regular thing.
Too true. Although, as it happens, all four of ours we've had since
they were kittens. Unwanted ones, bit not actually rescued, IYSWIM.

Is beer actually bad for them?
Cow's milk OTOH is generally not a great thing.

Yes. She's officially working 3 days per week, on a rolling 6-month
contract [1], just to get the work order approved, apparently, but has
been working 5/5 so far. So she'll have plenty of accrued time and is
still planning to work for the Ski school as much as she can this
    coming season.

[1] Which would still bring her just slightly less than my salary
including the >20% bonus I got this year.

No idea, although I don't suppose alcohol in any quantity would be a
    good thing.
So they say. But in fact it's not that it would be bad for them, just
that they can't metabolise lactose, so it'd give 'em the shits in
large quantities, particularly if you gave it to a kitten instead of
mother's milk. As I say, a couple of ours go mad for the stuff, so
    occasionally get a little.

One of ours will lick out a finished cereal bowl, but that's about it.
He prefers it with sugar as well.

One of ours can open one of the fridges. We have to keep a doorstop
    against it.

Hah. I wish. Got a way to go before even thinking about getting signed
off work completely as a result of the accident. But the accident
    insurance benefits are quite good...

Yeah, and the seeds taste just like the green bits, don't they?
Fouls stuff. Well, it's OK in a white sauce with fish, or in some
garlic-laden salad dishes, but it has absolutely nothin in common,
flavour-wise, with the One True Herb.

Yes yes yes, but do they taste like the herb? No, they do not.

There's a place for both of them in my cooking, but they have
different uses, and while they share some of the more complex aromatic
elements, are really not in any way comparable.
    Stone the heretic!

I'd suggest that your taste buds are fucked then.
WTF? Look, I've already said that we _can_ find it, and in nice sizes
at a good price, so why the hell would I bother trying to grow it,
struggling to keep the slugs off it, harvest it at just the right
time, then use it from the freezer, where it will be but a shadow of
    its former self?

Thubarb's OK, it looks after itself. Similarly the blackcurrants,
redcurrants and bilberries, the cherries (none this year, due to cold
and rain at just the critical time) and the mirabelles (Absolutely
tons of them, for the second year running). And we have an abundance
    of various hassle-free herbs too.

But stuff that tales work? **** that, life's too short, and
    supermarkets are too easy.

Damn right. Soft fruit for me as well, although I'd add tomatoes
(difficult to get nice-tasting ones in Britain, and impossible to buy
green ones for chutney) and asparagus.

you missed the impressive array of weeds
Stoning the mirabelles seemed like a labour intensive operation. Although
the sponge you made with them last year was very nice. Shame I was too
    early for them this year.

The stoning operation went much more smoothly this year - using a
better tool, and a bit of practise, cuts it down to about ten minutes
    for half a kilo.
Done the same again this time, and given away about ten kilos,
although I got people to come round and pick them themselves this
    time.

The ones I've seen in the supermarkets this year are very poor by
comparison, with a much higher proportion of unripe and damaged
fruites than ours, and selling for about 3.50 a kilo too. I'm hoping
there will still be some left on the tree next week when we get back.

Stored at ambient in-store, granted, but AIUI they will have been in
chilled storage for some indefinite time before arriving at the store.
Well, they recommend it on the box. The same box that carries the
    warning "CONTAINS EGGS".

Ditto ketchup, jam, marmalade, pickles etc etc. Even mayonnaise ffs!.
    Oddly mind don't have that.
