It appears to say the reflectors stand nearly 2cm proud of the road
surface - has anyone seen them to confirm this? That could be fun in the
dry as well as the wet.

Yes, I've seen them. They're all over Warwickshire.
I'll try to remember to ride over them, banked over while accelerating,
next time I'm out in the rain.

We have something similar in Notts. They're not quite as bad as they
    look but they're bad enough.

Having cornered over what felt like a small brick but looked like a
couple of pebbles tonight I just thought 2cm sounded a lot to be hitting
    at speed.

I'm pretty sure normal cats eyes don't stand that high and they have a
squidgy top which is supposed to clean the lenses as cars drive over them.

    You people have problems....
<thinks of Greek potholes, loose gravel, tarmac faults and whatever else one
has to deal with every day>

At least it's not raining much....

    You heartless bastards.

IIRC, that was down to a happy coincidence rather than design.

I think Sir will find that the original design for cats eyes, which was
British, was that they should bob up and down as a part of a self
    cleaning process.

Indeed. Percy Shaw was a genius.

IIRC didn't he die without making any money from the cats eyes, which is
scandalous when you imagine country roads at night with their cats eyes
removed. Never mind shellgrip and "Police, Camera, Action", the bloke
must have made the greatest contribution to road safety since the romans
put that second wheel on their chariots.

  11. Ah yes, the Roman motorcycles.....

I told Caesar that the motor-unicycle wouldn't catch on.

You don't miss them until they're not there. Driving at night in certain
parts of the USA can be quite unnerving at first.

The city put a string of them (here they are Bots Dots) across the road
on a turn lane - just at the point you start to lean to make the turn.

I pointed this out to and they relocated them.

Ah. He had a spartan and reclusive lifestyle. That could explaina why I
thought me didn't make any money out of it, or I could just be stupid.

    Prace bets now.

  19. AFAIR no. I sure I can remember a TV documentary about unsung Great
British Inventors which said he died a millionaire on his fraction of a
percent royalty for each one made.
