No. Coincidentally, there was an article in the papers today about
him. He made millions. He lived in empty rooms, but he was worth a
    *lot* of money.

  2. No, he made a bundle from them - half a million quid, in the mid decades
of the century. I don't think he did enough to improve and protect the
patent though - would be a different story nowadays. He lived like a
pike and dressed like a tramp, which gave lot of people the impression
    he was skint.

Teach a man to fish and he and his pikey mates will have the
river cleaned out in a day.

I believe he actually made millions from them. Still, he had a snooker room
at home with asphalt floors sans carpets, instead he had buckets of sawdust
to soak up the slobber his drinking pals left around the place after they'd
gobbed. Like the tap room of an owd boozer, but then again, he did like a
    drink did Mr Shaw.

I rather like the new illuminated catseyes, coming out of Cheltenham
on the A40, funky technology if you ask me... They seem to pulsate as
    you pas them...

Is that an optical effect, or do they actually flash?

    That's OK.

When you can't see the glow, *that's* when you need to be careful.

Yes, I've seen plenty. They're noticable in the car, but I haven't hit
    one on the bike yet.

They're not as good as the ones with LEDs in, where you can turn your
lights off and still see where the road goes. Apparently.

Sucking his keyboard for inspiration, MikeH typed:
I don't think so. IIRC, he made a great deal of money, and lived alone in a
large house called Boothtown Mansion, near Halifax. He never married, and
his only luxury (in the days when even one televison was considered posh)
was to have a TV in each room.

    Just one, utterly brilliant, idea.

Christofire old bean... You never cease to amaze me with the stuff
that you can type on your computer and send to the newgroup about the
kind of stuff that some people are interested in, albeit not
nescecerilly in a commited kind of way, although that's not to say
that they weren't genuinely interested, but then again you never can
truly tell... Know what I mean?

    How you doing?

Still, I'm not dead so game on.
