Does anybody use those portable cb radio's while riding, ive seen a few
bikers use them with head sets..

on special at super cheep auto are digi talk 40ch uhf cb radio's, that take
4 x aaa bats, have an optional headset ($10) and inbuild battery charging
with other options, are these things worth it for 40 bucks

    cheers

Shit yer. If you can hold a soldering iron steady, buy a PC headset* with
mocrophone and hack it into your helmet*, and solder in a contact switch
on your handlebars. Alteratively (and this is my next project), hack the
handset* into a smaller box that mounts on your handlebars. There's
various kits out there that will pull 12V back to 6V to power the unit.
IIRC Super Cheap is selling Uniden units for $80 a pair.

Some of the more pricey CB radios have VOX which is a hands free feature. I
am pretty sure you can set the sensitivity. So you just talk and it
transmits without you pressing any buttons.

I have the UH040XR which was $99 at Dick Smith. Its a 0.5 watt radio and
doesn't do too bad. Never used it on the bike though.
