CB250RSA - no spark

    Okay.... 1981 CB250RSA - kick start model.

Recently, my regulator overcharged and blew itself up, taking at least
the alternator and possibly the CDI unit with it. The CDI shows scorch
marks where the ignition feed from generator connects. Bought new
Regulator - is five wires instead of the previous six but I'm assured
the lack of sensor cable has been sorted internally. Either way, it's
not part of the ignition circuit.

Bought new CDI unit. Also found spare one I'd forgotten about.

Got alternator which was listed as being for the electric start version
(RSD-C) and looks significantly different to the original but phoned
and was advised that as long as it has the same diameter and thickness
(basically, as long as it fits) it would be fine. It has 7 more coils
in charging circuits, and igniter coils are in different places. Also
the faces of the poles are larger (both dimensions, so less space
between each pole/post). I did advise all this to supplier.

Put all parts in and I appear to be getting up to around 80v to CDI
from generator (varies as it's kickstart I guess) and a signal from the
pulser unit. But nothing at all at the positive terminal for the
ignition coil. Also nothing at CDI for that wire, so it's not the wire
    at fault.

    Have tried...

disconnecting the kill switch wire completely, makes no difference (but
must remember to re-attach at least the ignition switch part or if I
get it going I won't be able to turn it off!)

checked earth wire on CDI - it seems fine.

cleaned all contacts in ignition system

I have been told that the differences in stator could well be the
problem, but since I'm getting voltage to the CDI I'm a bit confused -
    anyone got any ideas?
