I am getting my frame and such back from the powderman on Friday so I
can now start on the forks. One of the sliders has a scrape on the
side where I hit the side of a bridge once upon a time. My question is
whether there is a good way of getting that scrape out. Then, should I
be looking at painting or lacquering the sliders? David Silver has no
sliders available but full assemblies are in stock.

Depends what final finish you want, and whether it has to look original.
If you are going for painted/lacquered, then you can just fill the
scrape. If you want just bare polished metal (looks ok IMHO, and quite
easy to keep clean) then start with rough emery cloth and work your way
to the finer stuff. Polish up with Autosol and the job's done.
