    Hi Guys,
Any idea where I can get a set of Front fork bushes for my
1971 CB750 Honda. I know I might be struggling because David Silver spares
say they have not got any, and they are discontinued.

I can get the oil seals, but could do with a set of bushes.

    Any Ideas?

    Regards,

    Pissed.

Make some? Have you got access to a lathe?

Have you asked them if they can source them via their contacts? I
noticed a few times that they don't always suggest that themselves but
will check if you ask them.

Failing that, there a couple of links to other Honda spares suppliers
in the link pages that are reachable from the FAQ.

If you've got the part number, it's also worth Googleing for the part
number - I managed to find discontinued spares for the CB450 that way.

  4. I'd set up some international Ebay searches. I'll bet there are some in
    the US.

Might work. Modern bushes are PTFE coated though, to prevent stiction.

Thanks for the advice guys, but after a few worldwide e-bay searches, and
google part number searches, there's nothing coming up yet. I'm quite
surprised really, I thought most CB750 stuff was still available.

  7. This is a ShiteOldCB750, remember. PTFE wasn't invented then..... Even
    nylon stockings were a novelty.

  10. The Cheng Summat or others? My VT500s did, I think they were original
fitment for the merkins. Crap they were but extraordinarily long
    lasting.

Are they just a straightforward bush? I just replaced some in an old AJS
which were made of something like black bakelite. I made two sets, one in a
hard nylon and the other from aluminium and both seem OK. I made the nylon
ones with a thou or so slack in the bore because I was told it absorbs water
which makes them swell and if you were checking them for play as the MOT man
would, you can't feel any play and they work well.
It wasn't that I couldn't get hold of them, it was just the AJS parts club
price was exorbitant, I'm just a tight fisted bastard and they were so easy
    to make.

  12. Teflon didn't find an industrial use until 1943, when it was tried as a
bearing/seal material in Uranium Hexafluoride pumps in the gaseous
separation plant in Oak Ridge. No other material (and they tried plenty)
would do the job - UH being particularly nasty with materials other than
    Nickel and PTFE.

Thus spake Eiron () unto the assembled multitudes:
The Bridgestones on a Honda CB250 K2 I borrowed in 1976 were about as
non-stick as you can get. It threw me and a pillion friend (whom I was
taking to pick up his repaired Suzuki GT250) across the road when I dared
to try a roundabout in wet weather. My pillion friend continued his
journey by bus; I took the bike back home and demanded its owner buy some
    Avon TT100's :)

Bugger. Thanks, I meant Dunlops of course. I got all confusedly all
over, thinking about Avon Roadrunners which I later bought for my Tiger 650
(my mate did buy TT100's, btw, but still managed to throw his bike and
himself through a hedge and burn his bum when the bike landed on top of him).

And, I think the Honda might have been a K4, just to add to the Count
Arthur Strong moments I seem to be having today. Soddit, I've over 50, I'm
    entitled to them.
