Need to charge the battery in the CBF500. Is it likely to be gel? The
charger does car & bike, but requires you to select if it's gel.

Thanks for the help, it was bit of an urgent request and I'm still
learning a bit about batteries. I'd done a search and it came back with
several after market gel batteries. But didn't find anything about the
original other than it was a sealed unit. I didn't know if they were
interchangeable. Just been out and got the charger and it uses
different terminology than advertised (standard and sealed). Looks like
I'm not in work tomorrow anyway, so panic over.

My guess at this point is sealed = gel.

    Thanks

    @newsfe24.ams2:

Not necessarily. Most sealed batteries on bikes will be gel types, as they
are cheaper. There are other sealed types e.g. the AGM (absorbed glass mat)
type I have on my bike. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/VRLA tells you why
sealed is a bad adjective for batteries and explains the differences
    between AGM & gel.

If your battery is low then any charger will top it up. You only need a
specific charger for a particular type if you are dealing with a deep
    discharged battery.

Thanks for the URLs, I've had a quick read and definitely book marked.
The bike is back up and running after a brief 2-4hr charge. Looks like
the negative screw had loosened 50% along its thread. Guess this would
have reduced the charge getting through to the battery. These things
are always easier in '+' temperature and daylight.

    Regards,
