CBR, Engine, Cluch and 1rst gear.

  1. Dear all,

Being not professional yet, I have got a question, and hope you could help
    me.
I have been in the situation few times when I stopped the motorbike on the
second gear, then I could not switch the first gear on. I have to foot-roll
little bit (forward-back) then 1st gear can be switched on.

Is it a normal behaviour or I suppose to go to the garage and check the
    gear-box up?

    Thanks for your help.

Nikolay Vyglazov emerged from their own little world to say
Engaging first gear on my brand new 1999 CBR6 was often troublesome. When
cold there was often a loud clunk. The problem didn't improve with time or
    miles.

Riding the bike in the Alps was horrible if you came across a first gear
hairpin. Especially if you misjudged a bend, or encountered a Citroen BX on
the wrong side of the road, and needed to change down a bit quick.

With practice you will learn to let the clutch out almost to the bite point
and if necessary blip the throttle before pulling the clutch back in and
    selecting gear.

They all do that sir - Keep the front brake on and let out the clutch
so it just bites, tap the gear lever - repeat until a loud clunk is
    heard.

Sorry, should have said pull the clutch in again before you tap the
    gear lever.

Thanks for advise, will practice more than. Important, that it is not a
    mechanical problem, just my misuse.

It's not misuse, Nikolay, it's more of an undocumented Honda "feature".

I have same problem on my ZX6 in fact I now blip the throttle on almost
every downchange as ive locked the backwheel too many times (hamfisted
twat). The only thing is people give you that , you show off dickhead
look when you do it at slow speed. But thats better than haha you fell
    over....
