    Hi

Been reading this newsgroup for a while and decided that it was about time
that I came out of the woodwork, and since I've now got a problem with the
new bike, now is as good a time as any!
I purchased a CBR400RR about 2 months ago, and within a week of having it,
the battery died (up Mt Mee in the middle of the night of all places, had a
heap of fun free wheeling back down with no lights or engine, but that's an
amusing story for another time!) So, finally worked out that it was the ol'
reg/rec problem, replaced it with a heavy duty one (RR) and a new battery.
Four weeks later......dead battery. What's going on?
    Cheers

  2. Die Stator Coils bin kaput... happened to me on my ZXR250 back in the day,
exact same symptoms as you describe. Best thing to do is to get the stator
rewound... there should be no shortage of people in Brisbane who can do
    small coil rewinds.

I'de get a multimeter on to the stator to see if you have any fualty coils
or charging problems in itself. The regulator/rectifier and batter is one
side of it, but you need to check wether or not the stator is actually
charging up properly or not at the same time. Has the battery been boiling?
(ie, any residue or overflow etc etc), or is it simply out of charge
suggesting a lack of charge from the system. If you can get hold of an
online manual or something that'd be your best bet, 'cause it gives you all
the values you need to check the system.

    Cam
    '00 ZX6R (and I haven't had a charging problem since my GSX250S which
    SUCKED in that dept!)

  4. An actual official de-lurk!

Now see all you other wannabes... that's how you enter a news group :)

[1] Oh, and I reckon it's probably the stator coil(s) also.

    Thanks Clem,
Didn't get that far with it over the weekend, decided riding is more fun
than fixing, did notice that when its revved the brightness of the headlight
dies, looks like it could be an alternator problem I guess. Do you know what
your getting yourself in for offering to help ;) the CBR400's are a REAL
    pain to work on!!!
Thanks heaps for the offer..Ill keep you posted eh?!!

Andi, I'd fix that before something bad happens to all your rare
and expensive electronic gizmos. I'm not sure what it'd be,
    but I'd suspect the rec/reg ...
I imagine getting new CDIs for them ain't all that fun either.

yeah, ive changed that to a heavy duty one, and replaced the battery, but
true, i should fix it sooner rather than later.
