Just completed the CBT today, love every minute of it on the road :)
Booked my theory and DAS is in 4 weeks!

I was looking to get a naked 600 Bandit, 600 Hornet ot Fazer, but just found
some old Performance Bike mages from 10 years ago (yeh 10 years later and
I've finally decided to get a bike!) and saw a bike I used to drool over as
    a kid... the ZZR 600!

I'm seriously considering buying one. Like the idea of a Sports bike
although ZZR is more a Sports Tourer. Would like the ZX-6R, but feel it
maybe to much as a first bike & also insurance for the ZX-6R was £1025 with
Bennetts (28 yrs, Manc). Expect the ZZR will be around the £700 mark same
    as Bandit & Hornet.

Anyone have any suggestions or views on the ZZR?

    Cheers,

    Jach

For insurance the Bandit is NU group 10, the ZZR600 is NU13, so I'd have
thought the ZZR will be more to insure, but maybe not by much.

For an old 600, bloody fast in a straight line and very comfy. Mine
felt rock solid at 145 mph. At the right price I'd have another one
for winter/long distance work. Fast enough to frighten you, post DAS
    :)

  4. It's very dated, but it's very cheap and you get a lot of speed for your
money - like 160 or so, which is amazing for a mere 600. It has a very,
    very good engine.

The downside is that the suspension is very soggy and wears even soggier
very quickly, so it pitches and bobs. A sports bike it's not. And the
ground clearance is pretty crap, especially if you take a pillion when
the suspension's deficiencies are even more apparent.

As a fastish touring bike, yes. Big tank, excellent range (it's
remarkably fuel-efficient as well), comfy seat, good fairing. And if you
spent maybe a couple of hundred quid on the suspension it would be even
better. Good vfm, but remember you're buying a design that's well over
    10 years old.

Mate from work's ZZR is now reading 95300+ miles and it still starts
    first time and sounds good.

The rest of the bike is falling apart though, his brakes are even worse
than those on my Gixer :)

    Cool! Have fun.
I've never really been fond of the ZZR, I much preferred the GPZ & GPX
models, and latterly the ZXR's. Just a personal thing, really.

You could also consider the CBR600 - a lady in this parish currently
has one for sale (not me!). Except the insurance might be a tad pricy.
