    Paging the font.

Any recommendations for folk who can rebuild or replace CDI units for an
XV535 without having to mortgage a kidney?

Breakers/partfinders drawing a blank. Google only bringing up the muppets
who claim to be rebuilding mine (since 24/12/03)

    TIA

  2. Do you really need a new/rebuilt CDI

Were you getting odd miss fires but not sure which pot.
Was the relay group clicking all on its own.
Would the problem disappear now and then?

    AFAIK
(but that could mean anything given my knowledge)
    Yes - on pot 1
After it warmed up - but then start playing up after 20 mins.

Sent it off for a check/rebuild. They disgnosed some part that costs 2.56GBP
but has to come from japan. Getting hold of this part is proving nigh on
    impossible.

Local bike shop (JT's, Swansea) checked the rest of it out and disgnosed the
    CDI.

  4. Went through a similar miss fire on Jane's bike. It all pointed to the
CDI until some one suggested looking at the connection from the leads to
the coils (2off) from the main power line through the wiring harness.
The connection is made by brass crimps except on a batch of them they
used steel, brass coated. These rust and cause all sorts of problems
    that look like the CDI.

To get to them you have to unclip/plug the harness at the rear of the
bike and feed it through the back bone frame until you see where the
coil feeds enter the harness at the font. Cut back the cover wrapping
and solder the wires to the main power bus. Re-wrap the harness, feed it
back, plug it in. Robert is then your sibling's spouse.

  6. Nope. Must try harder

BTW are you moving to, or from that place in the woods?

Just to add something here - *generally* when CDIs fail they just stop
dead, rather than giving poor running or intermittant faults.

  8. Do a search on google you can easily do a repair yourself as most of
them are down to loose conections or dry joints on the tci board.

    Here's a useful lin k

Both of them explain a bit about the TCI's

What problems are you having with the bike?

  9. Gave up working for a living. Sold the place in the wood in 2002, got a
normal 5 bed house in Nar-f*ck not far from my old mum. Get to see her
    more often now.

Non starter. Before it used to run but had a history of No 1 failing.
