The last CG125 I rode would have done 70 I am sure, if I could have
found a long enough hill in line with the prevailing winds.

While Ace is essentially correct he completely forgot to call you a fat
    bastard, so I will.

    On the clock, maybe.

Well I didn't know that was true, but I guess I could have assumed it.

The engine is certainly tighter as it hasn't used any oil in about 1000
miles. The older bike used a little oil every few hundred miles

Presumably you're still talking about your cg125? Anyway, it's clear
you haven't a clue about engines as is demostrated from the above
quote - 'tight' can mean new, not yet fully bedded in, but is not
normally related to oil-tight, nor to power output.

Trying to make it go faster is futile - just enjoy what you've got
until you can move on up to something proper.

  5. That's about right.

Remember, when maximum speed figures are quoted they are obtained using
the skinniest possible rider, in skin-tight leathers, adopting the
missionary position in neutral or 'favourable' conditions.

On a CG125, the difference between that and an ordinary bod in jacket &
jeans or oversuit, in a slight crouch, can be 5-8mph.

Problem seems to be sorted now!

The last 2 things I did-

    -changed oil, cleaned oil gauze

bike went up to 65 no probs after this

    -change spark plug

    now goes up to 67/68

it feels more free at the top end of the revs now

still havent got round to cleaning the air filter though! It is a
spongey type one, what's the best way to clean it?

    Thanks for suggestions everyone

Clean with paraffin or proper foam filter cleaner (Silkolene's good),
rinse with washing up liquid & water, squeeze (but not ring) it between
kichen roll then leave to dry.

To oil it, soak it with foam filter oil (not engine oil), squeeze out
as much excess as you can, then squeeze it between kitchen roll again
to get rid of the rest of the excess.

What's wrong with my posting style? Thanks for the air filter cleaning
advice....In Haynes it mentions white spirit is that similar to
paraffin? I know I've got some white spirit in the garage. Do I soak it
in this and leave for a while before rinsing with water and washing up
    liquid? Thanks, Ben

Well of course a CG125 is too slow.
It's a CG125. The letters and the numbers following the letters are a large
    hint.
