Does anyone have local (Qld or Aus) info on a chain beaker, staking tool
and supplier/retailer capable of handling a 530 chain for a Blackbird.
Bike retailers in Brisbane aren't proving too helpful. Most reliable
source so far has been wholesaler Link Intnl. with an RK kit but with a
retail sticker of $340 I'm keen to find alternatives.

    Cheers,
    Kev

Contact Brian at BikeMart in Melb. (03) 9879 5822.
He sold me a copy of the RK one and it's been doing the job just fine so
    far...
    About the $100.
    cheers

    breaker , angle grinder

joiner , vice grips and hammer

if you just want a breaker to drive the pins out then they are about $60

joiner the same tool presses the side plates on hammer the pins over

  4. so fiddly, those things :/

I just use the Dremel to cut the chain off now. Joiner to put the new
one on, but realistically I should just buy a pile of those funky
twist-the-knobs joining links that Whitey has, much easier.

  5. MCA in Sydney, Parra, and Livo will sell you a chain breaker, and freight it
    to you COD.

Seriously though, for drive chains, an angle grinder is the best breaker
you'll find. Not entirely suitable for cam-chains though.

  6. Nope, an angle grinder is a completely inappropriate tool for the
job.. coz i don't have one in my shed. Unlike a dremel, which I do.

  7. Make sure you don¹t get handcuffed in a locked shed with stick mags about
    then.....

You mean like the one I have, a nice American made Porter Cable jobbie, that
I never use? Ah well, it's nice to have quality tools just lying around :)

  9. Gee, I tend to use the "the right tool for the job is the one at the
hardware store". Gives me an excuse to buy more tools.

Shit yeah, I love that way of thinking. I have a great engineering tool shop
(a real one, not the stupid mitre ten of overpriced Bunnings down the road)
that I go to and get all the weird and wonderfull tools if I need them.
There's nothing like doing something on your bike and going "ahh, I have the
perfect tool for that" ... makes life easy. Mmmm ... Tools.

I thought I'd lost an angle grinder for a while, but I found it at the back
    of a shelf last week.
Old computer and Telstra racks make great storage shelving. I've just
increased my share to 14 racks. Whilst sorting them out I came across the
    'lost' angle grinder.

The problem with my shed is the woodworking machine. Damn thing needs about
three metres of clear space each side of the blade and another three to the
left of it. Can't really put anything in that area.
