Stupidly assumed the new scoot would have a boa lock like the current pug
scoot has built in it's arse end,

Being a cheapo chinky scoot, it's only security if the steering lock, which
    is prolly made of cheese.

And i gave away the hefty oxford chain and disclock type thing when i sold
    the virago.

I don't particulary want a chain again, but if they are the best for the
money i will go down that route, just thinking weight and ratteling and all
    that.

Wondering about the cable type locks, something like 20mm's of steel cable
in a plastic outer, are they any good? or can a pair of wire cutters snip
through them if the thief is determined enough (and sad enough to nick a
    chinky scoot)

I want around a 2 meter length <fnarr fnarr> so i can snake the thing around
the back wheel of the scoot, through the frame of the dog trailer, than
around something solid on the side of the road, most of this years use will
be abroad, anywhere in europe except spain.

Something like the oxford tripwire, i want something with the eye on one end
so the cable/chain loops round it's self through the back wheel, then i have
the rest of the length to go round the trailer and all that, where as a
normal chaing being 2 meters in length only gives 1 meter after it's gone
round the wheel and post and back again.

Want to spend upto £50 for sommat half decent that will defeat the scrotes
who nick the scoots, even chinky ones, the one we're getting looke quite
nickable, certianly not the granny scooter style we have now.

I'm a school caretaker and often have to 'remove' bikes (normally pushbikes
but we've also removed a few motorbikes) that have been locked up and
forgotten about. The wire in plastic stuff is easy to get through, and I
mean Junior Hacksaw easy, 11/12mm wire rope in about 10 seconds ... I'd
guess even a much thicker wire rope would only take a bit longer, 'specially
if a decent hacksaw blade was used.

Problem is, I think, that the wires are held tightly by the plastic outer
sheath, so if you also bend the wire over a tyre, you have a very good,
relatively solid surface on which to cut. Using Mole grips or similar to
hold the wire only makes it even easier to cut

Fairly small chains take us much longer to remove, simply because they're so
hard to hold it steady enough to cut. You could also pierce the outer
plastic coating of a chain and use two padlocks on it to achieve the same
thing you do with a rope.

    Just a thought. ;)

I've said this X times here already. Go along to a good Master Locksmith and
ask the question there. Bike dealers know **** all about locks! You will
get a length of decent but not overly heavy chain and a good padlock type
device, enough to deter school janitors.

Also look at the Xena range of disklock alarms and associated "Claw" devices
    for attaching chains.
