Ordered a genuine C&S kit for the Blackbird (06406-MAT-E00) and have changed
the sprockets and cut off the old chain with the trusty angle grinder. Went
to put the new one back on and its got 116 links instead of the 110 I should
    have.

Do I take it back and wait another week with no bike or do I just take out
the 6 links I don't need. I'm worried about damaging a link that I'm going
    to need.

Any advice would be welcome (about what to do rather than being a **** for
    not checking before I started!)

Might first be a good idea to check the number of teeth on your
original sprockets. Or maybe the kit is meant for a different year
    Blackbird.

Should have said, 17/44T so the same. Mines a 2001 and the manual suggests
97 to 03 were all 110 links. Just checked the DID chain number and it's the
same as the manual so I'm thinking that the extra links were a mistake on
    assembly at the factory?

It's quite common to get a few extra links on a new chain.

Just lop off the ones you don't need.

If you're local (North Essex) I've got a chain splitter/riveter tool here
    you are welcome to borrow.

Doesn't matter. Just whizz one of the heads off a rivet
with the angle grinder and push the pin out, then rivet
    as normal.

BUT wrap the chain around the sprockets first, just to
check and be on the safe side!!
