Chainsaw attack

  1. Yup -they contain lots and lots of long kevlar and kapok threads to
clog up and immobilise the blade rather than to act as armour to stop
    the blade hitting you.

  2. Indeed. He tried to claim mitigation of being up in a tree on a windy
    day..

Still - it wasn't as bad aas one of the other managers who managed to
run a commercial-grade stump-grinder over his foot. Yes - he was
wearing the approved CE steel-toecapped boots but that didn't stop the
stump-grinder from cutting the middle of his foot out from the toes
    back to the ankle joint..

Tosh. Every chainsaw I've ever seen has a centrifugal clutch.

I was putting it together, not using it.

The whole scene must have been similar to one from a government safety
    advert.

Those chains are sharp, you lnow.
If you want to. I'm sure there are better pictures of wounds that
    they will see.

Christ, what's happening here? Bunch of chainsaw safety-nazis or what?
FWIW I wear gardening gloves when using the chainsaw, but on those
occasions when the chain neds adjusting or comes off I naturally
remove them and use my bare hands. It's not going to bite, FFS.

It's not _that_ sharp, FFS, and when stationary it's perfectly safe to
    handle without gloves.
Only through being a complete fuckwit.
    Who? And anyway, I don't and wouldn't.
So you're telling us absolutely nothing then. Thanks.
Err, looks like a chainsaw, yes. An old one too, and a reasonable
    size. What's your point, exactly?

Heh. You'll have to wait. I had loads a lot of branch-lopping[1] lined
up for this autumn, but as I'm not supposed to do any back exercise
until the end of November I think I may have to get a man in.

[1] The lower branches of quite a lot of the trees, perhaps a dozen or
so, are now too clese to the ground so need to come off.

OIC. TBH I don't really think modern ones are much 'safer'. Sure,
    there's a cut-out that sometimes might avoid a kick-back, but it'd
still be a doddle to cut something off by accident, as seen in the UK
    papers just this week.

Jude's done it - first time while I was still in hospital and again
last weekend on a much lower setting. She only needed me to go and
    'fix'[1] the mower three times.

[1] Restart it, that is. The start key/switch was a bit dodgy and she
couldn't quite seem to work it out. All sorted now.

We just had a big horse-chestnut tree removed, sad event.
It took 2 men and a shredder less than 2 hours to cut it down and
    take it away.

All 3 I reckon, wrong place- the garage was lifting, bleeding

They seem to be OK here as well. No read ones, but *loads* of normal
    ones with loads of fruit.

Even more interesting, to me, is the *huge* Chestnut tree in the
hospital grounds with enormous amounts of fruit on it. I am keeping an
eye on that over the next few weeks. Sticking up for Xmas I think
