One thing I've always meant to ask you... how do you get a record
like that to 'official'? Especially these days when breaking the
record requires you to break the law?

"...following a police Range Rover down the M6 at 95 mph and trying not
    to get noticed..."

    I liked that sentence ;-)
(Apologies if I mis-quoted it, its a while since I read it.)

Having read the article in Bike, I don't think you need to worry about
    your record going.

'Swot I thought. What a collection of old carp.

Even on a decent contender[1], it would be hard.

Bikes are faster these days, and the roads are better, but the speed
cameras would make it much harder. Plus the fact, of course, that if
you get nicked at a hundred and eek! mph then they're quite likely to
    throw you in jail.

[1] I immediately thought Kawasaki here - ZZR1200 to be precise. Why do
Kawasaki seem alone in being able to build high-speed blasters that
you'd actually want to ride at silly speeds for hours at a time?

    says...
Dale Lomas from PB rode a ZZR1400 round Europe on the Cannonball Run, or
something similar. I didn't read the full write up but I gather he was
very impressed with its high speed blasting ability for hours at a time.

No, nono. That's the Yorkshire Ripener, innit.

    Champ's just a bit over-ripe these days, that's all. It's prolly all
that time he's spent in his levvers goin' rahnd Pahnd Island.

I assume that the inclusion of the BMW assumes that one is actually
going to ride it off road, or at least 2000 miles of third-world
    roads?
I've yet to encounter a Kawasaki that was the type of bike I wanted at
the time I wanted to buy at a price I was willing to pay.

I very nearly acquired a slightly foxed RS250 as the basis of a road
    legal hill climber.

Someone occasionally turns up to events with an S2.
