I currently have a Garmin iQue M5 and a Road Angel Classic

    http://www.garmin.com/products/iQueM5/
Works fine but I don't used it as a PDA, I only use the GPS

    http://www.blackspot.com/products/classicroadangel/index.html
Saved my bacon on countless occasions but a bit dated.

I fancy chopping them both in for this:

    http://www.blackspot.com/products/navigator7000/index.html

...as it combines the best of both worlds.

Before I do this, is this the best Sat Nav / Speed Camera unit on the
    market in that price bracket?

If you want to use it on the bike, I'm not sure it's waterproof.

The Garmin Zumo 550 does the same things, with the right database in it!
Also has all the other whistles and bell that push up the price.
But it is waterproof and works great, both in the car and on the bike.

That's the sort of thing. Cheers.

I might pop over to the local Halfords where I can have a go and get a
    feel of what's on offer.

If you don't need it for the bike, then forget it. go with the Tom Tom Go
910, superb unit, does everything, including reading you text messages from
    your bluetooth connected mobile.
Good MP3 player built in as well.

I'm reading the spec now. It ticks all the boxes and there are some
    good deals on eBay too.

Bought a replacement Zumo from these guys last week. Ordered it at 17:00 on
the Wednesday and it was with me before 13:00 on Thursday. Superb service.

Just thought I'd pass it on.

No relation or any blah blah blah.

I don't think mine did that. but only certain fones are supported for the
SMS to speech bit, check the website. My V3 was. Bloody awful fone though.

Could get a bit embarrassing, if you've got the wifey in the car and the
girlfriend sends a naughty text! It reads it out without waiting!!

    Hhumpf!

I did the "reserve online, but pick-up at store" thing via Currys; shop
price £350, reserve and pick-up price, £290. Looking at the "price
listing" pages, that's not a bad deal, plus you can pick it up in
person; as the 910 has a 20 gig hard drive I'd not be inclined to let
    Postman Pat loose on it.

The TomTom ONE I started with was excellent for the money, but the 910
    is in another league.

Which reminds me, I need to bung the ONE on eBay. In fact I need to
bung lots of things on eBay, including a very pricey Momo steering wheel
I bought for the Jag XJ40, which should give you some idea of how long
it's been in my possession :)

How much for the "one" I'm looking at getting a cheap gps for SWMBO as she
does a lot of driving, (to the same place!) but with so many road works and
closures of late she has expressed an interest in a gps. I might buy another
910 and let her use it whilst I carry on with the Zumo. Not sure yet.
But... if the price is right, I might "come on down" ;o)

Their FM transmitter mount is also out of stock, although to be fair I
don't like the iDrive transmitter I currently use as there's too much
interference, especially in central London. I need to see if the
AudioTroll is available for my Saab yet [1]

[1] hard wires into Saab head unit, then takes over head unit so things
like track information, lists etc come up on the Saab's display, plus
you can use the steering wheel mounted control to operate the iPod.
Downside is that it's fucking expensive (over £100), and apparently
    requires installation by SW*REALLY*K.

Pricey, but if it does the job, it's worth it.
I've tried a few of these plug in itrip style transmitters with no success,
as you say they suffer far to much interference and you have to keep jumping
frequencies as you drive around, in an effort to beat the bloody
    interference.

Hang on, I'll check what they're making on eBay.

    <checks>

**** me - they're making anywhere from £140-160! You can buy a new one
    for 190! That's just daft.

Mind you, mine hasn't got the Europe maps, only UK, although it is the
later V2 (better casing, more durable, etc). Happy to leave the speed
camera POIs on, but of course you'd need to register for updates
(currently 50 euros a year for traffic and camera updates).

So minus listing fees ... less discount for hassle saved [1] ... call it
    £110. That do you?

You'll need to be able to pick it up from Clapham or Windsor/Slough
though, coz I suspect the postage is liable to add a chunk of change.

No worries if that's too rich for your blood - I can't believe they're
making that much, used, on eBay. People are bloody daft.

I'll have a word with SWMBO tonight, but TBH I think I fancy the full
functionality of the 910, especially as it would give her a full hands free
kit in the car with no hassle, and is easy to use.

I'll let you know later what SWMBO decides, as she is going to be the main
    user ;o)

    Cheers.
