Changing the clutch...

    ....is it difficult? I've got a (nearly) new one inna box.

    I remember old one was very juddery whilst filtering etc - low speed
    work. SO might as well put newish one in while bike being prepared to
    meet the sunlight again.

    I fired up fair ly quickly. God bless MrHonda. It's sat for a whole
    year in the garage, enough to drain the battery and the alarm backup
    battery. Rust on the subframe has progressed to near sentient levels.

    But it all went together well and seems to run ok....

    Depends on the bike...

    BMW and Guzzi clutches are a pain in the proverbial as one has to take
    the gearbox out of the frame.

    Your average Japanese bike clutch should be pretty much OK to change.

    There's no need to remove the big nut in the middle if you're only
    changing the friction and metal plates. Removal of the bolts that pass
    through the clutch springs is enough.

    You don't need to undo the large centre nut on a CBR600 to replace the
    springs. Take out the bolts that pass through the springs and the
    springs come out with the centre plate. Simple, even you could do it.

    According to the manual, my old gixxer has a single big nut holding
    the springs and plates in place. Not a common arrangement though.

    Common enough, if you happen to have diaphragm springs in your clutch.
    They have advantages over the more usual coil spring type setup.

    Are you sure? The workshop manual says I have to take the centre nut
    off to change the plates.


    It's a CBR600F-r 1994 - one of the last second generation CBRs

    Ho hum.

    Anyway - rode it round the block this evening.

    I forgot how much fun it was.

    centre nut, but looking at the diagram SD posted it looks like I must
    have.

    The later models have "proper" clutches.

    One of them was on Caz's CBR600FX, I fitted an uprated set of plates
    and springs. That had a normal bolts through the springs and a centre
    plate that came out without the centre nut needing touching.
