Yep, rim protectors help, I needed to use a block of wood on the rear to
help the "heel kick" bit of the side stand clear the rim (oo err missus),
but what a difference it makes to the sweat levels ! :)

It never ceases to amaze me how thoroughly tyre beads weld themselves
to rims. I did a couple of miles recently with a completely flat rear
on the Tiger, with a pillion, & even that didn't break the bead.

As I had to change the tube in that, plus fit a couple of tyres to the
Raptor, I splashed out on an Abba tyre changing kit[1]. Not cheap at
188 quid including the single-sided adaptor for the MV, but it's
already saved me 45 quid in fitting & balancing costs, so won't take
    long to pay for itself.

Very nice, now which pannier do I fit it in ? :)

I've now got a nice collection of tyre levers, and rim guards, I just need
to source the correct size block of wood for all those tasks that a block
of wood seems handy for :)

The right one obviously, so it's easier to get out with the bike on the
    stand.
Just tape a G-clamp to the swingarm & use that for bead breaking. It's
a lot easier to lever off/on the first/last bit of the bead when the
opposite side of the tyre's squished together with a G-clamp too, so
the beads sit in the well in the centre of the rim.

You are the second person to suggest that.

It's a very common thing to do amongst the long distance adventure
    touring types.

Is the increase in unsprung weight not noticable?

Never done it meself as any bike I've taken out of breakdown cover
range has had tube-type rims & beads (so easy to break), but I
    seriously doubt it.

IRT in the style of "A tiger? In Africa?",

Anyway - depends on the size of the G-clamp, iwt.

I don't think the Pegaso qualifies as a big tourer :)
