Chaytor jailed for 18 months

  1. Well, one down, three to go.

Wonder if the others will now plead guilty?

Zackly my thought. If a fair-cop-guv plea gets 18 months, those who
plead Not Guilty are likely to be looking at >30 months if/when
convicted. I just wish they'd hurry up and charge that sleaze-bag Denis
    MacShane.

Eh? Isn't he a slightly sleazy, bemulletted antiques dealer, used to
get on the telly a lot?

Sky had a chap saying they thought Chaytor should get community
service as he was so environmentally minded - apparently he bought
some land and planted a wood! Didn't say whose money he used though...

  5. Yes... and I think he deserves to be locked up for what he did to that
nice Ray Winstone after Ray had killed Gandhi.

Be honest, Gandhi was asking for it. The slag.

  6. Planted a wood, eh?

That's an obvious sign of an advanced tax-dodger, anyone who gets
    involved in the forestry business.

  7. Why should they?

Just look at the rather revealing responses from "former colleagues". Much
sympathy and not a single "the dishonest **** got exactly what dishonest
cunts deserve and he should rot in jail with all the other criminal scum",
from any of them. Those still awaiting an outcome must figure that they
are in with a better chance of getting off scott free if they were to
plead innocent just by virtue of going to the right school and having the
support from "the court of public[1] opinion."

[1] Where public really means private group of sycophants who have easy
and reliable access to the media.

Quite good at improv, but not as funny as Greg Proops.

Hope he has a good strong grip on the bar of soap, not!

I can't help wondering what banging him up will achieve. His life's
basically fucked already. A good long community sentence of weekend and
evening work for the good of society[1] (so he can get a job in the day
time and support himself) might have been more to the point.

    Maybe that's just me.

[1] Menial tasks of the bum-wiping / painting / tidying up variety would
be ideal I should have thought.

  11. Because hanging is too good for the likes of him.

Also it keeps him well out of the public eye so it does actually serve the
national interest quite well. Where public is mostly those with a vested
interest in keeping it so. Particularly those with a strong financial
    vested interest.

    Society's vengeance.

Baddies must be seen to be punished. It's not meant to achieve
    anything more than that.

Nope. 18 months for £20k fraud. Benefits cheats get away with payment
orders. As much as I hate to say it he's been made a scapegoat.

He'll appeal the sentence and if there is any justice, he will win.
Do you know how much skill can be involved in bum wiping?

Not at all. Jailing people who a) aren't a threat to other people & b)
aren't going to do a runner is just absurd.

  20. As a member of government he was responsible for governing us and
setting laws that would (in principle) bang people up for much smaller
frauds than the one he committed.

I know his life has been destroyed but let's not lose focus on what he
(and many others) have done beside the horrible self-serving fraud and
sense of entitlement- reduced the public interest in politics and
reduced political discussion to "oh, it's allright for them", "whoever
you vote for they get in" etc. etc. etc.

It's a tough world and while I have some sympathy for the impact on his
family, his actions were despicable. Especially claiming parlimentary
    privillege to defend the indefensible.

I think he needs to serve time to be a reminder to those who serve us
    that *they* *serve* *us*.

And, on a personal level I've never submitted a fraudulent expenses
claim or expenses I haven't incurred in the course of my work, if
anything I end up month in, month out, out of pocket due to not being
willing to claim for things I'm entitled to (newspapers whether I get
them or not) and not messing about with 3 quid for coffee, 12 quid for
a round of drinks when entertaining, exchange rates etc. etc. I don't
expect any less from the people who represent me.

I do hope he gets sent to as pleasant a prison as is possible and that
he's treated with respect. I certainly don't wish that he gets raped.
