    Are you under stress?

    Have a look here
    www.freedieting.com/tools/calorie_calculator.htm

The numbers are right. 2500kCal is for "normal existence", if you are
training you will need much more.

I'm a diabetic with a dodgy pancreas and highly insulin resistant.
Somewhat desk based. 1000 calories certainly isn't starvation for me.
I only lost 4kg in 2 months at that rate, bed bound. And I certainly
don't eat as much as 2000 at the mo and it seems to be stable.

    This made *you* look silly.

As a 6 year sugarmong food balance and calorie intake is something I
    understand.

Then eat something low cal and low carb. M&S do a variety of good
    things.

    Yep, that's do it.

There's nothing like a case of the drizzling shits to get those unwanted
    pounds off.

    Yes. I. Know.

My full spreadsheet also lists each type of drink per it's usual
    serving size.

    No shit.

Plugging my numbers into that calculator gives a burn rate of just under
2500 calories a day, much as one might expect for a 30-something male
with a desk job. Eating 2000 calories a day would equate to a shortfall
of 3500 calories a week which, cunningly, is the calorific content of a
    pound of fat.

I was talking to Ginge not you. Ginge flies a desk for a living and is
more my mass than yours. He isn't a sugar mong though of course.

Ginge is a similar mass to me and has a similar working environment.
1000 might be too low for him but 1500 will work and is not at all
    difficult to achieve.

  11. Diabetic doesn't make any difference to the calorie intake required.
What it does affect is the type of foods that make up those calories
(ie no simple carbs, good balance of fats, proteins and complex carbs).

Oh - and eating regularly. If I go too long between meals my blood
    sugar shoots up alarmingly.

One of the biggest changes when I broke a leg was not going to the pub
every night, or drinking at home to replace it.

Er, I certainly get a lot more tipsy on a bottle of claret than I do on
two pints of lager, yet they're about on par for calories.

I tried to count how high I climbed on stairs yesterday at the power
station and lost the will to carry on when I'd gone past 500' before
    lunch.

Come and spend 6 months of the year doing that sort of shit and you'll
soon lose a couple of pounds of excess flab. The downside is you'll
look like a few matchsticks glued together and stuck inside some
overalls but wearing the same leathers is never an issue.

It does. As my system has trouble processing energy so my metabolic rate
    has reduced.

Pah, apparently my BMI (according to a internet calculator) is 30.3.

But then I play Rugby as a forward, so do not have much fat on me.
