This is an RSV1000 on ebay. 'Cheap' and 'Aprilia' really don't fit
    together.

'ALL CAUSED BY BIKE FALLING OVER AS THE STANDS ARE NOT THE BEST'

Except that the damage is on the RHS.

The bike is also covered in stickers and has, amongst other things,
cracked clocks and the usual dent in the swingarm.

Think I'll give that one a miss.

Damage on the RHS doesn't necessarily preclude a sidestand mishap. The
sidestand on my RSV, keeps the bike considerably more upright than the VTR.

As Spete's already pointed out, RSVs (and the same goes for Falcos) are
quite "upright" on the sidestand, so have a tendency to fall the
    "other"[0] way.

Didn't Ade (the lawyer), ex of this parish, have that happen to his when
    the rear tyre deflated?
RSV swingarms look like they're dented from the factory.
    Probably wise.

[0] Note: this is not like the "other" bus.

I always put the stand on a block of wood in the garage to keep the bike
more upright until a slow puncture tipped it too far to the right....

    Stupidity.
An uneven floor and slightly worn sidestand mean that the bike leans
a long way when parked, taking up more space than necessary in the garage.
Now I just use a small block under the stand so it won't overbalance
    even if a tyre deflates.

  7. I wondered that as well.

By and large, manufacturers manage to get basics like sidestand angles
    correct.

It helps stop all the air flowing to one side of the tyre & causing a
    bulge in the sidewall.

The perfect justification for almost any action.
Well, that's acceptable; I almost always stick mine on the paddock stand
    for that reason.
Still asking for trouble, I'd have thought.

Would it help if you thought of it as levelling the floor rather than
    interfering with the bike?

Apparently bikes falling off the sidestand due to a puncture was a well
known problem. I don't know if it applies to modern machines.
As Adny Woowward said many years ago:

"Modern sportbikes have IDIOTS designing them. They only lean a couple of
degrees over on hte siedstand, so you cant park htem on a camber, they blow
over really easily in winds if you park em leaning into it, and if a tyre
goes flat, they fall over too!

The VERY FIRST thing you do when buying a bike is to take a file to the
sidestand stop so it leans teh bike far enough so that it stays upright
    with a
flat tyre (let them down to check)"

My Tuono isn't and they're basically an RSV Mille, though I suppose it
could have a different suspension height, or even simply more preload
I'm assuming the same sidestand is fitted.

I've had this happen, but it's hardly a sidestand fault, is it?
Well, it's a known issue where the exhaust gets knocked inward by the
silencer and dings the shiny alloy bit. Mine's got such a ding, but
the one on the ebay bike was quite a significant dent - I'm not
convinced that simply falling over could have caused it.

Yes, I know, I've had it happen, and I've had bikes that sat
relatively upright, (including my current RSV Tuono) bit it's hardly
what I'd call precariously balanced as I've said elsewhere.

The air suspension on my old XS750 wend down once and caused a similar
problem. Luckiny the moped next to it broke its fall.

In the case of the XS I welded an extension on the sidestand to stop
it sinking in soft ground in a campsite. It also brought the bike a
bit more upright: they had quite a steep lean angle. This was fine
until, laden with me, girlfriend and camping luggage, I took a blind
left hander on a country lane on the wrong side of the road because
the enlarged sidestand foot was dragging all the way round.

When I had the TL in the garage, I put wood under the TL's sidestand>
I had the Tuono on the left (facing out), the Guzzi centre on its
centre stand and the TL on the right, but propped slightly upright to
make more room to squeeze past or work on the Guzzi.
