If you want cash delivered to your home then Saga offer good rates. It's
rebranded Travelex but the thresholds for free delivery are lower. I used
it a couple of years ago when going to Croatia, as my local B-d-C needed a
few days notice to get Kuna.

Someone else mentioned the Caxton card to me a few days ago, as recommended
by CT. Seems it is the best value of the Euro cards, like Travelex or the
Thomas Cook card. For Egypt the deal may not be so good, as you would need
the World card which has some currency exchange fees.

Earlier this month, I used a Santander Zero credit card which I had
preloaded with cash. It worked fine in Belgian & Franch ATMs and as the
name suggests, I paid no fees, didn't go overdrawn so paid no interest.

Isn't about time you wrote a dissertation on Medical Services, Home and
    Away?

We're using them for our imminent trip to Canada, but we ordered the
cards in advance via the internet (they came within a couple of days),
and we can top them up (again via the internet) if and when we need
    to.

about that, I guess - though that's not a lot for a family of four
    over a fortnight.

But it's still not worth worrying about the £20, IMO.

Nope, just £500. The difference in rates offered is quite suprising.

  10. Look, I promise next year we'll get a holiday. Honest. No vomiting
    bile or broken bones.

Either that or we rig the sweepstake on which bone I'll break and
    where.

  11. I didn't get to try the food in Italy so it wouldn't be a balanced
    sample.

After tralling through the ones with good rates, I realised they set
delivery for upto 14 days in advance, so I opted for the Post Office.

That's who I've gone for, as all delivery options are to home and need a
signature, which is no good when I'm at work. With the PO, I can choose
the office just down the road and collect at my leisure.

I'm at home most of the time, but it is always sod's law that you pop out
    when the delivery takes place.

And the PO is near the pub :)

I always used o go the French PO and exchange itwhen I was a yoof, always
a better rate when in the country you need the money off. (IMO)

As an example, this year when the Euro was dipping like a dipped thing,
Travelex online was 1.07 euros/ukp and at the air port it was
0.99/GBP, I then used my card (Natwide) in Spain and got 1.11 to the
    £sterling.

Did I use enough alternatives symbols there ? :)
