Oh, ****, another shouting barrack-room lawyer. How do people as dim as
you get to own computers? It's not as if they give them away at petrol
    stations yet.

Listen: who said the examples I posted are the only examples of his
piracy? They're what I managed to find in a very brief search of Ebay.
I'm pretty sure he's using at least two alises. Could very well be
more. So you don't know, and I don't know, whether this is the tip of
an iceberg, do we, Mr Thick?

Secondly, I don't think you have *any idea* of what it's like to be on
the receiving end of a copyright complant by a very, very large
publishing company. The least it will do is scare the living shit out
of him. He will almost certainly have to give some form of legal
undertaking. That will cost him legal fees. In addition, EMAP's lawyers
will bill him for what they've done.

It is going to spoil his day. Probably his week, and quite possibly his
    month.

    Thank you.
You have just confirmed your understanding is totally and utterly lacking.

You've owned /all/ of the surviving RD400s at least once haven't you?

Just to clarify, you know it's not TOG taking action but EMAP (Google will
tell you who they are...), it's just TOG's work the perp happened to be
ripping off? Because what you were saying might be almost understandable if
you didn't understand the scale of the people about to fall down on the
    seller...

Is this the point at which we're supposed to write things like:

  11. I'll be interested too. I used to work for seriously large publishing
firm. Getting our legal folk off their collective arse to protect the
firm's rights was nigh on impossible.

I've made a note on my calender to check the outcome of this one.

Not to mention pointless as you can download the dossiers from the
Classic Berk site for nowt anyway:

  14. The issue here is surely the scale of the seller. Unless he has
significant assets emap are going to lose out big style by pursuing
him. In contrast will they really gain that much in deterant effect?
How much does emap lose from the sale of copies of their old editions?

We'll have to wait and see. I'll piss myself laughing if TOG's right
    and they go for him.

You'd be surprised. A tale from when I worked for Sun Microsystems of
merkin lawyers I know but things are going the same way here:-

I was working on a project with one of our very trusted partners which
among other things would involve EKS tunnelling through the network
defences so that not just the permies could get copies of the latest
(unreleased) course notes when working from home and shit like that.
Sun were all in favour, to the extent that I even had a budget and I
don't do having budgets as a matter of principle.

We thought it would be a good idea to set up an internal forum or three
and we did and matey did the centre pane of the gadget protected
homepages in Sun Blue. It took less than 24hrs for Sun's lawyers to
freeze all business he was doing with us and despite me and every other
**** upwards from there phoning faxing and generally doing our bit for
matey 2 weeks to get it all unfrozen.

Corporate briefs are sadists who have **** all real work to do.

You have absolutely no idea what lengths a publisher will go to to
    protect copyright.

ISTR we (as in UKRM) did this, or something similar, fairly recently.
I think I got bored and never found out if there was a positive
outcome one way or the other though.

No, this is the first time you've mentioned it. Mind you, haven't you
owned most of the RD400s brought into the UK, at one time or another?[/QUOTE]

So how much would an RD400 *without* Lozzo's bumprint on its saddle be
    worth, then?

Dunno, but doesn't really matter as matey is making (some) money
selling stuff that ain't his. So it's a copyright breach

    No.

For example, the films The Last Emperor and Cabaret were recently given
away free with a certain newspaper. Does that now mean those films have
no financial value or copyright worth defending? Of course not. In fact,
the former's still for sale at £9-£15 and the latter for £6-£20.

But most importantly of all, if someone wishes to give away their
property that's up to them. Someone deciding to take that property is,
and always will be, a thief.
