    When you compare the $ to £ price it looks pretty fair. Then you check the
    spec and find it's somewhat crippled to make it so and ramping it up pushes
    it to the £2k mark.

    Not just ferociously expensive, but not "nice" at all.

    I had dealings with an Alienware lappy a year or so ago, with odd
    graphics behaviour. Device drivers weren't available for download unless
    you had registration details provided only in the original packaging.

    Eventually, Alienware admitted that there was a known problem with
    overheating - it'd been used on a non-flat-smooth surface, which'd
    blocked off the cooling ducting underneath, cooking the video card - and
    it went back under the hardware warranty. It hasn't been seen or heard of
    since... Last I heard, Alienware were denying knowing anything about it
    even being originally supplied, let alone returned for warranty.

    Avoid like the plague.
