Oo, the start of a willy waving thread, I seem to have come back on just the right day. Does it mean mine is drooping down past me knees if I mention that when god decided to make an utterly pointless vegetable he decided that a total lack of taste was the way to go and made the chilli?
"Thai chillies that will have you dialling 999" That makes an interesting counterpoint to the story from the day before http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/7026443.stm where it reported "A chemical from chilli peppers may be able to kill pain "
Maybe they meant "kill painfully". AFAIK however, capsaicin has already been used for years in creams for muscle and joint paint. Geo
@volcano1.grnet.gr: True, but most of the traditional ones work through counter-irritation. I witnessed someone spray Ralgex an a kid's bollocks at school. I'm pretty sure he was distracted enough for me to remove one of his kidneys.
Reminds me of the first time we cooked a 'Mole con Guacalote' at home. We didn't then have the dried Ancho, Passila and Mulato chillies, of which the recipe (for a whole turkey) wanted 4oz each, roasted, desseded and skinned. So instead we used what dried chillies we had, including Birds Eye and some little cherry ones. The resulting smoke cloud made the kitchen virtually uninhabitable for the rest of the day, and it would still sting the eyes several days later. The resulting dish was superb, however, despite being several orders of magnitude hotter than the recipe intended, and even a "I don't really like hot food and I'm mainly a vegetarian" friend of ours ate a fair amount of it. I'd even done a milder veggie chilli specially for her. -- _______ ..'_/_|_\_'. Ace (brucedotrogers a.t rochedotcom) \`\ | /`/ DS#8 BOTAFOT#3 SbS#2 UKRMMA#13 DFV#8 SKA#2 IBB#10 `\\ | //' `\|/` `
I put Ralgex on my leg at the top of my thigh when I was about twenty. It's not something you do twice. D.
Sucking his keyboard for inspiration, Des typed: I once "accidentally" sprayed Brut on my bollocks. I was 15, in my defence. Christ it hurt - and lasted /hours/.
