So, it appears that *had* I liked WUN's GTR when I rode it, there
would have been no obstacles placed in my way should I have desired to
    acquire one.Which I didn't.

Now, the Blackbird is 8.5years old, verging on 30k, starting to sound
a little tired (a bit clattery on the overrun), and, frankly, I've
    never really "liked" it.

It's worked fine, only let me down once (even then, only a bit), and
it stills scrubs up well. It's still quite brisk, too.

    So, do I:

a: get it properly serviced, and get another 8 years/30k miles out of
    it, then scrap it?
    or
b: Nige it out on Ebay, and replace it with summat else?

If b:, then what? I'm thinking of getting something new. Properly new.

    GL1800 not available for consideration.

It needs to be big enough to fit the pair of us on it, so no CG125s or
    RGV250s, please.
It also needs to be able to commute into the centre of Lahnden, so no
    Ural combos, either.

    The CBX is staying(for now)

    All suggestions, etc.

    Why is that?
Way to expensive but Steve Parry's beemer is a technological and
    performance Tour de Force.

Do you have any basic objections to Ducatis?

Bandit 1250SA? much bargain. Fast enough. Lots of room and comfy.
Reliable and cheap to run. ABS. Not bad upper fairing without being
    wide.

IMBW but I thought that was due to plod overloading them at the back? I
can't afford one anyway but am very happy with my ST1100A. TBH I wouldn't
like to commute on it, the low-speed handling's not that great (or my low-
    speed riding is shite).

For a daily commute into London I'd look seriously at some of the bigger
twist-and-go's Silver Wing 600, Suzuki Burghman (sp?) 400. Horses for
courses and all that and I wouldn't be depreciating the one I ride for
fun. Here in Jersey I have a 50cc twist-and-go for riding round the
island and keep the Pan for blats to the UK or France, it's too much like
hard work riding it round our country lanes or trying to park it in St.
    Helier.

You depreciate it every time you ride it.

The word for which you were so fruitlessly groping is deprecate, but I
don't suppose your linuxmint spellchecker has that pre-loaded.

    Pfft.

Get the chair wheel in the air and it's suprisingly narrow - although
not as narrow as the rider's sphincter. So far.

Precisely, that's why I'd rather not commute on my 'fun' bike YTC.
Is the wrong answer. I meant what I typed, see context.

    A few caveats:

    No BMWs, Triumphs or Ducatis.
Scooters are right out. (even if those three wheel things looks a
    hoot)

    Budget sub-£8k.

It doesn't have to be "fast" - it's for commuting on, and general
bimbling, and I'm about as quick as ginge on Prozac, anyway.

"Looks like a proper motorbike" would be an advantage.

Bandit is the right kind of direction, I guess. I'm even edging
    towards a CB1300S.
