There's no problems at all with the electrics that I've heard of[1],
apart from when people fit alarms & don't put the main loom back
properly. There's a weep hole in the outer casing of the loom by the
engine which has to point down. Leave it pointing up & eventually one
of the fuses will start blowing regularly.

Mechanically wise, they're bullit proof. The 750s had problems with the
rear brake fluid boiling, but that's easily solved by moving the
reservoir. There have been some cases of the rear wheel bearing
failing, which is caused by over tightening the hub pinch bolts - so
easily avoided if you service it yourself, or check it after a dealer's
been near it. Other than that, the only issue was a bad batch of cams
in the early days (not cleaned properly before being hardened).

[1] I run the Yahoo MV email list so get to hear about anything that
    isn't a 1-off.

Had me puzzled until I saw WUN's reply. Now I've identifed the cause
    I'll be instructing solicitors forthwith.

And to think that for all this time I'd thought it was all my own
    fault.

The first time I rode one I thought "Fuuuuuucccccccckkkkkkk!!!!...How
can anyone ride a bike that has zero suspension movement and requires a
world class bodybuilder to make the thing turn in." Mallory's hairpin
is not the place to be finding out it requires Herculean strength to
turn a bike in fast when you're carrying more speed than you thought.

I just didn't get on with mine. I've ridden others that felt okish, but
my Thunderace was a better bike then my 9R was. Going from 9R to Gixer
thou was like getting out of an Austin Maxi and into an Impreza Turbo -
    that much of a difference.

Would you say you found it was difficult to turn in, like the 10R[1]?

No, my 9R didn't have a steering damper whacked up full - it turned in
    fine, just didn't feel *right*.

When I rode Andy's 10r on a french run some time back it really didn't
feel much different from my own K3 gixxer. Slightly different riding
position and "feel" but certainly not in the least difficult to turn
or in need of physical strength.

I'm fairly scrawny, and have no problems with my 9R. It seems to drop
    into bends very nicely.
