    CN renewal - 521.09. I don't think so... Now that their website's
working again, I did get it down to 367 online[1] for the first three
bikes - didn't bother adding the rest.

Devitt - only one of their underwriters will cover Power Commanders[2],
but not if the bike's kept in a timber garage[3],

MCE - 304 including European breakdown (with no age limit on the bike).

Footman James - 303 including European breakdown (forgot to ask about
    the age limit).

Neither Footman James nor MCE will cover the Fantic on the same policy
as the rest though, which is a bit of a bummer.

[1] Rang them when the website wouldn't work, & blokey said the reason
the quotes are always cheaper online is because some underwriters will
    only deal with online quotes.

    [2] WTF?

[3] Which they class the same as 'on the drive'[2].

I have the same problem every time I go to a new insurer as our garage
is by English Heritage and is made of oak. It also has a
    professionally installed alarm.

I usually send them photo's of the garage at which point they come
back and say "The underwriters say that's OK, it is a garage"'.
Whether that is actually the case or whether they are just humouring
    me I have no idea.

Changed mine from Pont Grup to Direct Line. Half the price.

Then found out that in Spain there's some law that says to cancel an
insurance policy, one has to give 3 months written notice! So you have to do
the shopping around 3 months before renewal time.

**** that. I've cancelled the DD and that's the end of it. I expect I'll now
have 6 months of threatening letters saying I owe them for 3 months
insurance. I'll see them in court!!

I tried sending them photos of the bear traps in the drive & my banjo
    collection but it didn't help.

I get my multibike via the AA insurance, 130 quid for 4 bikes.
All declared as "on driveway" because I keep one ready for use at
home and the rest in a lockup about a mile away.
They changed the underwriter this year to get the price down from
    195 but that excludes CIHAGM.

A Somerset village postcode and nothing faster than a 400/4 would
account for some of the difference with max NCB and age 65 but
worth a phone call to see what they can offer you.

Try them with a bike worth 10k with 'performance mods' & see how far
you get. Oh, & the AA are cunts.

A similar system in France where once they send you nthe renewal
notice you are deemed to accept it unless you give notice in writing
in time that you don't IYSWIM. Except that when I decided to stop
insuring the SO YZ registered in France SWMBO just went in to the
office with the letter a few days before the due date and said I was
"too old to ride it any more" 1] and they just laughed and said OK.

[1] It was specifically insured for "enduro" use IIRC.

My 'classics' are over 15 years old and AFAIK also get the euro
breakdown cover with Footman James. Which reminds me that I must
cancel the cover on the Voxan.

They've just written to me saying they can't quote a renewal because
they don't know how much the bike is worth.

Seems odd, they insured it last year, so they should have an idea...

Went with them in the end. There's no age limit on a 'modern' bike
policy. That seems to be the same with all the inscos who package
breakdown cover with the insurance, but getting a standalone policy for
    a bike over 15 years isn't easy.

Strangely, my renewal came through and it seems quite reasonable. I need
to compare it to last year, but I was suprised. Of course, I'm wondering
if I can do my usual phoning up and moaning thing and get the price down
    further.

It may be the same here, but that lot never sent me a renewal notice in 7
years. They just grabbed the cash each year without a word.

Certainly is in CH. In fact, you have to give three months notice if
you want to ange your insurer, and if you don't then you're obliged to
stay with the original lot. Right PITA, as they don't even do it by DD
and I always forget, three months on, and end up getting fined for not
    renewing in time.
