I don't need a new rev counter for the Ducati. The old one works fine
(except that the redline and needle have faded in the sun).

So why have I thought: "Oooh, that looks like a bargain!" and bought a
    new rev counter?

I just sort of slapped in a bid and assumed some other bugger would
    outbid me. And they didn't.

    Hey ho. Hello, Paypal.

  3. Or possibly because, after my ding with the Triumph, I just know that
I'm going to break the rev counter of the Ducati any day now.

No you're not. You've got a spare rev counter.

You're going to break the speedo.

    HTH.

No you won't ... not whilst you have a _working_ spare available.
