Imagine my distress - shopping at my local Woollies bottle-shop I saw the
price of a 6-pack of Strongbow had increased. Bugger. That's life. Imagine,
though, my even greater distress when I got the aforementioned 6-pack home
and discovered that the amount of cider in the new-look slimline bottles had
DECREASED by 20ml. The alcohol content remains the same, but I'm now paying
MORE to drink LESS (and a bottle now contains 1.4 standard drinks instead of
1.5... It was easier to work out how many standard drinks you'd had when 1
bottle = 1.5 - especially after you'd had a few!!! My maths has never been
    good!!! Bugger bugger bugger.

Bastards! No more Strongbow for me!

That's even more upsetting than the time I found out how drunk a lightly
built person could get on a 6pack of the white! I'd been drinking the
dry for ages and could handle it and didn't know the white was stronger.

I'd be sending some feedback. Never know your luck. Point out the maths
thing too .. 1.4 is a pain, 1.5 is much easier.

This is a pretty common marketing ploy in the food and beverage market.
Vote with your wallet Betty - find something else nice to drink but make
sure you let Strongbow know it!

    Cheers

Metabolic factors would probably make much more difference than 20ml of
cider. Why can't you just keep counting using 1.5 and err slightly on
the side of caution? Are you really going to drink so much that it will
    make any difference?

  6. I'm not much of a cider drinker myself, but my girl won't touch
Strongbow if there's Mercury Cider available instead... If you can find
any of that, see if you like it better than Strongbow...

You know, I actually thought about home-brewing cider... but the thought
that it might taste like BEER (aargh yuk icky poo, Johno can have all the
beer!) made me re-think the idea.

betty, switching to Muckury from now on

  9. I should hope not. The only reasonable conclusion to be drawn from the
timestamp on your post is that you completed the entire Cotter loop in
less than 30 minutes, in which case you must have consumed at least a
    six-pack of Strongbow first :)

Yep, drink Mercury if you can get it, otherwise make your own. See if
your local home brew shop will get in some "William Tell" kits by
Southern Home Brewing. Get the dry type, the sweet and draught are
artificially sweetened. Add a litre of pear juice, a kilo of dextrose,
and you've got a lovely, dry, verging on bitter, fizzy apple-flavoured
rocket fuel. Leave out the dextrose if you don't want to be legless
    after 2 glasses.

Geeeeeeez, Nev..... that's not the point! It's merely an additional
irritation on top of the financial factor. Now, if there were mitigating
factors, like, for instance, the more expensive cider made you lose weight
or reduced crows feet or something...... then I wouldn't mind quite so
much.....but it's just one negative after another!

Your girl's right - Mercury's much nicer than Strongbow - less gassy - but
less widely available. I shall make the extra effort from now on, though,
    and stock up on Mercury...

Or Bulmers, or any of the Brit ones. I don't think Strongbow's seen
    an apple in years.

Well if it does taste bad the run it through the still , though my cider
is pretty good , its just a matter of the right apple juice and yeast .
I find the brand doesn't matter so much as sugar content .

It's more difficult to put the cider into a smaller bottle.
