I know there are a few peeps around this area. I will be staying in
Cirencester from Monday 17th for 4 nights whilst at QA. Would anyone like
to meet up for a beer or three? I do have a small work allowance of
beer tokens. It would be nice to put some faces to nicks. I'm booked into
The Fleece. any other recommended drinking holes greatly appreciated.

Might be interested. Remind us a bit closer to the time.

I don't know the pubs in Cirencester, I'm afraid, so can't really
    recommend anywhere.

I know where _not_ to go. AV8 on Kemble airfield (just outside Ciren).
    Over priced and pretentious.

There's a LOVERLY Chinese restaurant called
Tatyans (or somethig very similar!) in Ciren. Are you going on your bike?
Great roads from Ciren towards Lechlade and Burford if you are!

I seem to recollect a decent chinky on teh main street, but IIRc it was
called something else.( i went to QA there about 4 years ago)

Unfortunately not on the bike as yet depends on the weather. I don't
really fancy a 200+mile ride home on Friday in pi$$ing rain.

    Cheers though

Did you know there is a scientific debate going on as to a fifth taste
receptor on the tongue that tastes MSG?

    Here's an interesting summary

All Chinese food is an MSG-fest.

No, Ken Hom's Yellow River cafe in Reading advertises that it does not
use MSG. Good job - it keeps me awake.

Every Chinese restaurant kitchen I've seen - and I've been in more
than a few - has had a long line of shallow dishes around or over the
range. They contain all the various flavouring agents, ready to be
pinched by the chef iyswim. The biggest deepest dish, full of what
looks like fine salt, is always full of MSG.

Chinese food tastes like newspaper without it. Having said that, when
they get it wrong and put too much in, the side-effects, or even "MSG
poisoning" symptoms are most amusing. Sweating, itching,
hyperventilating - and bright red cheeks - combine to make you the
    entertainment for the evening ;-)

Meals consumed in Chinese restaurants that decry the use of MSG,
actually. Restaurants that I've visited in company with people who
really should have known better, but professed a preference for
establishments that "treat their staff really well" or "do lovely
    stuff for vegetarians" ...

Well then you haven't tried Yellow River Cafe. I don't like the place
but even I have to admit the food is bloody good.

Hell, no. The local Chinee do a wunnerful spread - tastes good and
big portions to boot. Plenty MSG, keeps hair growing ;-)
