Classic Bike Values

    Hiya Those off lottsa knoledge.
    I'm looking for a site in Aus that can give me an idea on the value of
    classic bikes.
    I'm looking at buying a mates old 74 CB750 four. No Reg or RWC, Needs
    little work to tidy it up for rego & RWC. Asking $450. Also has a Wisco
    810 kit in it.

    And yes it does run. My mate bought it about 13yrs ago, he soon realised
    it had a bent frame. He got another frame of a mate of his & desided to
    restor it for himself. he redid the fork seals, polished up the frontend
    & cleaned the motor & G\box, Did other little stuff, but never got it
    back on the Rd. He now just takes his kids for rides around the back yrd
    every couple of weeks or so, So it hasn't really been sitting for any
    real length of time.
    I haven't seen the bike for about 6yrs, But this mate of mine I can
    trust when he says it only needs little stuff (Tidy up some wiring,
    Panel are straight but need attention paintwise) to put it back on the Rd.

    Another mate of mine who's into cars, He has a 69 Stang, a HT 327
    Bathurst Monaro, XY GT Replica & a 2004 Monaro & a 2004 Busa, said to
    grab it, The value of the Honda 750 Four & other bikes of that era are
    starting the increase rapidly.

    I'm going to get the engine & frame No's & have them checked with Vic
    Rds to make sure it's clean. My mate hasn't changed the frame No over
    yet, but can get me reciepts.

    Spose I just want to know i'm heading in the rite direction.

    What would you need to do to turn a bike which already comes with a
    one-piece handlebar, a round headlight and without a scrap of fairing
    into a streetfighter?

    Maybe $446 if you wiped that bit of bird poo off the left mirror,
    or $449 if he'll help you roll it into the trailer.

    Twin headlights, later model wider rearend & front, Flat bars, ect.

    So, instead of shelling out a moderate sum of money for some general
    cleanup which'll make the bike interesting to collectors, you'd
    contemplate paying a lot of money for comprehensive engineering work
    which wouldn't really improve the performance of the bike, but which
    would turn it into a worthless freakshow.

    Then take the money you'd otherwise spend on a set of late-model wheels,
    brakes, forks, triple clamps, swingarm and shock, plus the money you'd
    have to pay someone to remanufacture the 750 Four frame to fit all of
    the aforementioned, buy an early SV650 and streetfighter that with the
    change.

    Yeah something like that. lol. But I do like the Street Fighter look,
    And it will be a keeper if I go down that Rd, But if I resto it, who
    knows, if the price is rite.

    You make some very good valid points there IK. I'd be doing most the
    work myself & it would be a long term project anyway. But saying that,
    Maybe I should just buy the thing, clean it up, get it on the Rd & just
    ride the thing! :)>

    The Wiseco kit halves the price!
    Buy it if you want; there's nothing logical about such a purchase.

    A 35 year old bike is only interesting if it's 100% cherry original.
    **** with it and it's just an old, fat, slow, lump of 35yo crap.

    Now you got the idea, buy it and ride it, and you will have it forever I
    haven't worn mine out yet but I have rebuilt it a few times :)

    But its an inexpensive OFSL35yoC, probably a lot younger than most riders,
    and 120k on an oldie is as interesting as 300k on a new $20k rocket.
    Any ride is better than not having a ride and tarting up the old tart would
    be what bike nuts do for fun isn't it.

    Except that a 7504 SOHO even with a wiseco kit is still worth more than
    $450 even as parts...
