Ahh well... now see that's why we aren't agreeing.

I'm from the camp that believes "A difference that makes no difference
    is no difference".

If the difference is Indistinguishable then thats close enough to
    'equal' for me :)

And I agreed with the original post as it was worded.

Careful how you word things... you'll get what you asked for and not
what you meant (which our council recently found out to their disgust).

As far as I can find the first model Rollerdoors DIDN'T have anti-dive
but the 1980 Suzuki GSX750 had hydraulic antidive so that's the
    earliest I can confirm.

But it's only indistinguishable 'cos you're doing it wrong ! <insert
triumphant look as though he'd executed a deft syllogism>

    ;-)

Seriously though, equal doesn't equal better (your original
assertion), and even then, they're only equal to the extent that you
don't push their capability. That's like saying the CB250 and RGV250
are equal in HP because you've only measured them both up to 3000 rpm
and they have the same power up to that point

    JL
(actually I suspect the CB probably has more power from 0-3000)

What I meant (although I perhaps didn't make it clear) was that mono
shocks aren't always better and that sometimes twin shocks are 'better
    suited'.

There are still applications where they are more appropriate for a
    variety of reasons IMO.

R1200GSA's have a front and backside?

    Well bugger me! [1]

Here I was thinking that they had a backside and ummm the stinky bit in
the middle of the backside... [3]

Softails have twin shocks. They lay flat under the transmission and work
    under extension rather than compression.

Naah I just googled and GS and I were on the same page (that is we were
discussing the same model), however I did actually think the softail had
one shock in it's odd placement not two.

Regardless it's still a crap example of anything to do with suspension
given it's configuration is all about making the bike LOOK like it's a
hard tail without actually having that config's drawbacks (back
injuries, fillings falling out etc). So I stand by my scoffing of it as
an example of well, anything much. When you build for aesthetics first
then you can't complain if it doesn't actually perform very well. (Refer
anything made by a company with "Chopper" in its name)

However you can buy an aftermarket monoshock upgrade for the softtail

Apologies for the incorrect second "it's" but I stand by the use of the
