What's the best way to get all the sludgy brown shit mixed
with assorted shapes and sizes of rust out of the bottom of
    the tank?

The cap has been removed completely, along with the pump
and filter, so there's plenty of access inside.

    Ideas?

Large bag of nuts and bolts dropped in the tank and shoogled about like a
demented thing for a while should bash most of it off.

  3. ISTR someone (Lozzo) advocating filling it with full fat coca cola for a few
    days.

I may be wrong, he could have been telling me how to mix a black russian.

It allegedly brings your bog up a treat as well. Think what it does to your
guts when you can clean petrol tanks and toilets with it.

No worse than the hydrochloric acid produced naturally in your stomach
to digest stuff. Your teeth, on the other hand...

I used a load of small ball bearings. Pour them in, put the top on and move
the tank about vigourously for some time.

Both. Coke cleans fuel tanks a treat. ISTR Blaney used this method to
clean his Seedy tank out prior to painting it.

    Lol!

It's going well so far - got the petrol cap outer ring
off to check the tank and it is full of crap inside. I
then took the pump and filter out, and the two filters
(one gauze, one inline) are both fucked as well. Then
I tried fiddling with the petrol tap and it snapped
off. Luckily a quick message to my mate Nelly [1] and
I've now got replacement parts for everything as he
    had them all in stock.

The forks with twin caliper mounts have arrived from
Germany [2] and I've got the shock off and those are
being sent away to Racing Lines for setup [3].

As one of those strange coincidences, Clive Horton was
also my ACU instructor for the race test on monday,
which I passed 100%. He also gave me a quick colour
test as I failed the specular test, and passed that
too so the ACU and New Era applications are now being
    processed.

The twin calipers (£41), brake lines (already had for
the 748 but never got round to fitting) and 916 master
cylinder (£52) are waiting to be matched to a pair of
disks, which have to be OEM Brembo according to the
rules. I'm just waiting for some to appear on ebay at
    the right price.

I've also ordered some fairing from Germany [4] which
was a snip at £183 for the two sides, top and seat
unit including tax and postage. Certainly much cheaper
than the £780 quote I had from the only place doing
    them in the UK!

The price on the big-bore kits has been announced -
I can't tell you what that is, but the retail is £780
inc vat but Ducati UK are doing them at less than cost.

Next thing is to drop the engine out, fit that and
    get everything back together...

I'd just come in for the night but I'm now nipping back
outside again to pour this 2-litre bottle of Coke I
found in the beer fridge into the tank first!
