Cleaning Iridium Visors

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Matt E Mulsion, May 30, 2004.

  1. After putting some thought into whether I should buy a black or iridum
style visor for my lid, and looking at the best prices on the net, I
have bought a blue iridium visor from Racevisors.co.uk. So what is
the best way to treat it and use it so that the iridium coating lasts
for as long as possible? What are the do's and dont's with iridium
    visors?

I had an iridium on my old Shoei which the wife now uses when it's really
bright (now 5 years old and going strong) and I have a 1 year old iridium on
my Suomy which is used about 80% of the time (even in those situations I
list as a "don't" below as I am a twat sometimes....)

Dont use an abrasive cleaner, don't pick off dried on flies with your nails,
don't let the flies dry in the first place.

Do carry one of those visor wipe thingies I have with what looks like a
really scratchy upside-down V scourer and a little bottle of cleaing liquid,
do carry that and a soft cloth with you, do use it at each stop if you've
got a load of flies on your visor and then dry with the (lint-free) soft
    cloth.

Dont wear at night - even though the tint may not be too dark, you still
won't be able to see, don't wear in the rain if at all possible as the
droplets cause a funny clour distortion through the visor as well as on the
    outside.

Do keep you visor down at traffic lights if you're a minger.

    That's about it, I think...
