    Nice work Knob:

    http://www.superbikeplanet.com/2006/Mar/060331b.htm

    986-1992
Lawson, Spencer (spasmodically), Mamola, Gardner, Magee (briefly),
early Doohan, Rainey, Schwantz, Rocket-Ron Haslam on the Elf, Christian
Sarron, early John Kocinski .... After the big money, technology and
safety came to the sport but before the sponsors started exerting undue
influence (and we only had Spanish and Japanese riders get the plum
rides) and WELL BEFORE the anyone-can ride them 990 diesels!.

Also coincides with the advent of VCRs and live telecasts so maybe I'm
    just a bit biased.....

Can't mate, memory a little hazy about that year, although i seem to
remember that the Romans were trying some new chariots ( shitcati, I
think) - but couldn't get the leccys working (bloody teach them to
colonise the poms and steal lucas leccys)

    Johno <1066 was a great year>

My personal favourite but only back a short while in 1903 was the Holden
four cylinder. No chain, no shaft, this model was genuine direct drive. The
conrods connected to the rear axle. Obviously no clutch was fitted either.
"Colonel Holden afterwards went to Australia". Hmmmmm.

As opposed to the Honda 5FR chariots with their poor ventilation which
caused their driver's posteriors to overheat.
They always were known for their bad rectum-fryers!
