clothing question

  1. I agree, but 1700 quid is simply beyond the budget of most people. It
may indeed be *worth* £1700, in the way that a big Boeing is worth £50
million, but that's not the point.

Look you are really a blue denim jeans and leather chaps kinda guy and
    they are SO practical.

I've just been for brekkies in Santa Rosa and met a gaggle of local
    Plod riding K1200GT's......in shirt sleeves!!

    Champ says...
Their leather is too thick to make moving around on the bike easy. Also,
for riders of lightweight machines such as 125 race bikes, a BKS suit is
just too damned heavy once you put Astrosorb armour into it. The armour
almost doubles the weight of an already heavy suit and every ounce saved
is a bonus on a small bike. That's what I was told on a number of
occasions when I was selling MJK suits to racers.

I've just had a thought; what if you had that sort of suit, but it had
in-built electric heating? Or liquid heating even. A sort of personal
central heating system. Now /that/ would be the ultimate anti-nesh
    suit;
    all-over warmth.
Heating coils built into the mesh? yup that would be a blinder.

My Stadler Transair kit was about 1,100USD. I think it's good stuff.

My HG Voyager jacket is lovely. It cost about 200 squids four or maybe five
years ago. It remains cosy and waterproof, and the only bits that have worn
out are the bits I've slid down the road on. Oh, and a zip on one of the
    pockets.

  7. Some customers pay the same or more for "caveat emptor" products, for
which test data exists indicating they could have received a
significantly superior product for the same price or even substantially
less. I t might prove instructive to analyse the price points of
"Conformite Europeen" (CE) marked leather garments. I suspect the price
range involved is much "tighter" than the wide spread of the "other ce"
    products.

  8. Why stick at heating alone? Clothing systems are being developed which
are worn under outer garments and which cool the upper torso. They have
been evaluated by, for example, Sete Gibernau. It wouldn't take much to
extend the system all 'round the body. I suspect we might see such a
garment launched within the next five years.

  10. LOL. If they were honest, I am sure a lot of people would welcome the
chance to reduce the number to just one. ;-)

  11. Depends what colour the fluid is. Perhaps best to avoid anything red
    and viscous! ;-)

I'd envisage a lattice of soft, flexible tubes, similar to medical
tubing, rather than an all-enveloping "sack". The outer layers of the
garment would naturally be abrasion-resistant (and tested as such!) to
reduce the likelihood of the scenario you describe.

Bear? He'z just ziz guy, you know?
What temperature does freeon boil at?

If you came off and the (cooling) fluid came out and doused you, it'd
boil & evapourate quickly, freezing you.

    Maybe.
