Coke didn't do it

    Ime it falls into the 'life's too short' category. Just pour a bottle
    of POR-15 Metal Ready (or whatever they call it these days in), let it
    do it's stuff, drain it back into the bottle ready for next time &
    bob's yer uncle. The bare metal will be etched, the rust sorted, & the
    whole lot coated with zinc phospate, all with virtually zero effort.

    I'd still seal it after, but as it's TOG, this could be a 'tart up for
    sale' job rather than make it last for many years.

    It's a really, really good 400 Four tank. Excellent condition and it's
    very solid - there's just a lot of surface rust inside, that's all.

    I'd still give the Metal Ready a go. You'll be able to reuse most of it
    on other rusty stuff so it's not like you'd have to write off the full
    cost against that one tank.

    A quick descaling *IF* you can get the pebbles thrown into the tank back out
    again and you can't descale it with stones/pebbles, get it to a place with a
    steam cleaner (not a jet washer, nowhere near serious enough) and let them
    have it for 10 minutes. There won't be any loose rust after a damned good
    blast with a steam cleaner.

    Let it dry thoroughly and then throw in the contents of a couple of bottles
    of Kurust and slosh it all around. Despite what some people say about
    Kurust, it actually does what it's supposed to do.

    Then, when the tank is once again completely dry, Flowliner the fucker.

    All depends on how rough the rust in the tank is.

    If the tank was that bad I'd simply buy a replacement from a breakers.

    Yep. I've seen it work - and no, I was sceptical before the proof was
    (literally) shoved under my snout.
    Heh. As it's TOG, he could just as well use one of those XS tanks he's
    wedged out with.

    As promised and it looks like you're a bit wide of the mark.

    Quote from their website today.

    "Most fuel tank coatings have and will eventually fail due to the recent
    introduction of ethanol, FLOWLINER ARMOUR COAT is resistant to alcohol
    products such as ethanol.

    Description:
    FLOWLINER ARMOUR COAT is a two pack solvent free epoxy fuel tank coating,
    which when cured will form an extra strong lining inside the fuel tank, this
    650 gram kit will treat most tanks up to a 25 litre tank. You may use less
    quantity but the mix ratio should be 100 to 25 of hardener measured by
    weight".

    It's the "2 pack epoxy" mention that gets my vote. That stuff is generally
    fooking god shit.
