Commando Top Yoke

Discussion in 'Classic Motorcycles' started by Wicked Uncle Nigel, Jul 17, 2010.

  1. So the Commando's top yoke is a little... unsightly. It's (I'm guessing)
cast steel, with a chrome finish. And the chrome is of finest British
    quality, so it's rusting through.

I'd like to make it less ugly, without selling a kidney. I can get a
cast, raw metal one on Ebay for 30 / 40 quid, but that's pre-rusted. I
can get a "billet, yada, yada" one for 300 / 400 quid, but that's
    fucking silly.

Norvil seem to want a ton or so.

Is there anything I can do with the one I have to make it prettier?

I'm confused by this thread. Perhaps I'm missing something but otherwise you
take the existing yoke to your local electroplater & polisher. Remove the
old chrome/surface imperfections and triple plate.

Ok so what had I missed.

  3. Using the patented Mavis Beacon "Hunt&Peck" Technique, Hog
Which is probably what I should do. What I don't know is how feasible
this is (I know nothing about electroplating). I shall pay a visit later
    this week.
